My full conversion

Previous owner had installed some homemade traction bars. They looked to be binding the rear suspension to me. After posting some pictures on a FB page and getting some feedback I decided to cut them off and get the Offroad Design traction bar.

Someone welded all the way around everything. Sure am glad they didn’t much penetration or I’d be there another week cutting them apart.

Putting a order in for the traction bar and crossover steering tomorrow can’t wait.

Didn’t feel like being outside much tonight so me and the boy decided to save the flowmaster mufflers and collectors. Had to cut off what was on there and add pipe for the future when we do the exhaust

This was one side (forgot to get a picture of both of them before cutting them up)

I think the mufflers had a 2 1/2” inlet/outlet and was cut to open it up to 3”. I was gonna do a 3” dual exhaust anyways so I’m gonna roll with it.

Finished ready to install

Mufflers look like they are in good shape. There's a few hundred bucks you won't have to spend.

I'd like to steal your side step design if you don't mind. What size wire rope is that, and where did you get it? What about the thimbles that you have for rope stops? Just trying to figure out if those are parts that can be found easily. Thanks!

I got the steps off of ebay. Once I get home tonight I'll look it up for you. And get you a drawing of what I did

Back to the swap

Heres the dana 60 plates I picked up

Instead of manhandling this beast of a axle. Me and the boy just used the cherry picker to bolt on the wheels so we could just roll the axle under the truck and use the u-bolts to pull it into place

While the axle was out I decided to fix the cracked frame at the gear box and install a brace.

Up close to one of the cracks

Another crack

Frame prep with wire wheel

Drilled a hole at the ends of the cracks and grinded a groove in the cracks

Welded up the cracks

All cleaned up and forgot to take a picture lol

Heres the repair parts and brace from offroad design. And the unbolt kit from ebay

I put bolts in the holes to help remove any gaps and ensure that the gear box will bolt up without issue. C-clamped too. Also marked the areas to weld

Side plate finished bottom ate tacked into place

Frame repair done

Forgot to get a picture of the brace. Will do later when I switch out the 4x4 gear box for a 4x2 gear box. Got the cross over steering coming in the mail next week

Helicoil kit showed up tonight. And luckily the housing was already drilled and tapped for the 5/8 helicoil tap.

Went ahead and drilled and tapped the hole a little deeper to make sure I got plenty of threads into the housing

I’m so relieved that’s all I had to do. Definitely didn’t expect it to be that easy.

Went outside today to install a new power steering box, crossover steering, and a starter

Painted the drag link before installing

New 2 wheel drive box

Have to remove the sway bar for the cross steering

Annnnnnd it's about 5" to short. Called offroad design and we'll see what's gonna happen. No need for pictures of the starter I'm sure everyone knows how to install them.

My kids and I call my jimmy "The Beast" and I think I found the right color to paint it. Hulk green, seems fitting lol. Gonna use raptor lining products when the weather breaks

Worked on the beast today. No pictures this time. Had a little starting issue that was fixed by grinding all the grounds surfaces down to bare metal then coating with battery jelly. Now it's back to running. Went ahead and raised my trans/transfer case back up to factory location, got driveshaft lengths and went ahead removed all of the old exhaust hangers and heat shields.
