I do have a family...wife and two girls. We ended up getting a SFA SUV with very little plastic. It ain't GM

I'd be embarrassed for my kids and myself to be seen in an Avalanche...but that's just me.

congrats dude. you have purchased the uglyiest truck made since the 1960 dodge or international!!! and will sending the general like 700-800 dollars a month just to look at this eyesore!! but like i said congrats dude.if you like it that is fine because you did not buy it for the rest of us anyway.

just think guys, 20 years from now, people are going to kill one another for a 2001 Avalanche. I would love to be your 16 year old son waiting for a hand-me-down...

I do like the trucks, but agree about too much tupperware and the IFS.
Too much like the little ones, e.g. Tracker, Aztec, etc.
But I do envy you, it would be a blast to drive one of those things.

Four wheel drive, four wheel expenses...

Give it up dudes..... solid axels are history......And the new K5 concept...has more plastic than the PONTIAC AZTEC.....And I dont know if any of you have driven the new chevy V8's.......but they are a smooth runnin machine....lay off the dude....I cant beleive that your giving him that much crap about buying another GM product....Id hate to see if he bought a ford....

HeeHee...need thick skin around here sometimes. At least the 'Stupid duty' has a solid front axle...

I'm going to address all the points in this thread because I feel that all are in need of attention as the Avalanche is just that damn ugly.

Reddwarf, you hit the nail squarely on the head. I will never even consider a new GM product until they get their heads out of their rectums.

Ditto on the straight axle. I'll add, "with leaf springs". i wouldn't have it any other way.

Stimpy, I am sure that the Ford Superduty will out sell the new H.D.s, so your point about new products is nonsense.

Danno, I don't understand people with your point of view. Are you honestly saying that you don't like a vehicle becuase it has a blue oval on the front? Give me a break! It doesn't matter what brand it is, they're all the same anyway! Give me a Ford Superduty with a leaf sprung D60 up front and leaf springs over that ugly thing any day. Well, next year or so all will have D60s anyway.

4-6" lift and 35" tires is the easiest way to break IFS ever invented and the lift yields absolutely no performance increase other than to allow for bigger tires.

trusty, kudos to you for looking through the brand barrier and buying a truck by what's UNDER it, not what's on the outside.

90idaho Blazer, what you say could not be further from the truth. Solid axles are not history. They come on Jeeps, Fords, Dodges, you name it. GM is the only heavy duty truck to NOT have a solid axle.

Congrats, Stimpy, its always way cool to finally bring home a new ride you've been dreaming of. Personally, I'd have a permanent stiffy if I could afford to drive away in a new Silverado 1500 HD. Crewcab, shortbed, 6 liter, Z71 4x4. I bet God drives one. As far as all the boneheads on here, what the hell are you supposed to spend YOUR money on, a F#rd Super Crap? And what the hell's the deal with jumping on the engineers, if the public wouldn't buy it, they wouldn't build it.
Anyhow, send the wife out of town for a weekend, get out your sawzall, whack the snot out of the plastic, paint what's left so it matches the body color, lift it, lock it, mount some Boggers, and then post some pics. YEAH BABY!!!!!!!!!!

It ain't my money, and it ain't my truck. It affects me none when someone buys whatever they want. I just posted my opinion...if that caused any offense then I apologize.

It is my opinion that GM's last real 4x4 built was the 91 K30 Crewcab...room for 6 adults and a big assed camper, big block EFI, D60 front, 14 FF rear. It's been downhill for the last 10 years at GM...4x4 wise. Sadly in my opinion I don't see things improving. They have good engines, and some styling looks alright, but beyond that it's all crap.

The big difference is that people are actually buying the Avalanche.

Let me clarify....I meant GM solid axels.......My main point is that these people on here are dogging the guy out because he boyght a truck that has some plastic on it...so what .....He wanted to share his new purchess with us ....but insted the majority are negitive replys......If you bought that new Ford super duty....I would aplaud you....I love that truck....but cant afford it.......An opinion is one thing but out right critisizing a dude because he bought somthing that he thought was cool is not cool.....What new SUV do you guys suggest?Name a (NEW) one that dont have a bunch of Plastic on it....

I give this thread a 5* rating

I might also add that it seems that the anti-Avalanche guys seem to have the most independant comments. Maybe Avalanche fans secretly want to "just fit in"?

I agree with Rene. The last great GM SFA ever produced was the '91 V30. And yes, everything got shot straight to hell after that.

Today, if I had my choice to pick any SFA truck, it would be the F350 Super Duty. These trucks are way cool and bad ass.

Lastly, IMO, the Avalanche is so ugly, the designers should have been shot right away when they came out with the drawings!!!

I think the Avalanche would have been OK if they had stuck with the Silverado styling...especially the fender treatment.

I guess I should use more smilies and disclaimers in my posts, because I was sort of poking fun at you guys giving the poor guy grief over buying an Avalanche.

Do I like Fords? Sure, less than Chevrolets, and more than Dodge trucks. At least, this goes for the newer stuff. All three brands have their good years, bad years, etc.
If there was a good reason for GM to keep making all of their trucks with solid front axles, don't you think they'd do it? Unfortunately, those of us who appreciate solid front axles aren't the majority (not even close) of people who buy these vehicles. Not everyone wants to run 35" boggers on their daily driver with a six inch lift. Some people here might... ;-)

Oh, well. Flame away.

Well, GM straight axles are not gone. One day they'll give in and realize that IFS doesn't work on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and a good Chevy truck will be made once again. They're losing more customers than you think by not doing it. Even diehard Chevy folks are buying Fords and Dodges now.

There IS a reason for GM to be making SFA trucks, and they will one day. It's only a matter of time. A 1 ton truck with a big block or Diesel used for farm use won't hold up with IFS for long. Soon, GM will understand this, and realize that the tried and true, tough as nails SFA is the only way to fly.

Like I said in my previous post, I won't even consider another GM product until IFS is gone in HD trucks. I love the trucks, but refuse to have that cheap rip off of front wheel drive car suspension on my truck.

Tim, stick to your guns, and tell everyone you feel this way. That's the only way we have any hope of ever seeing SA trucks again from GM.

DONT TEASE. If they ever come out with a new K5, I'm gonna be pestering the junkyards. If you know the right people you can get new wrecked vehicles cheap. Let's say Junior wrecks the new truck that mommy and daddy bought him and bottom dwellers like me clean up
smile.gif
. Of course, I'd have to do away with the IFS and plastic but if its got a removable hardtop, thad be cool.

http://www.geocities.com/bigkern76

Well, the problem with that thinking is that IFS currently DOES work for the heavier trucks. GM has a very nice IFS setup right now.

Yes, SFAs are what people like us want. Unfortunately, we (off-roaders) are not a significant buying power, and can't easily sway GM to keep using SFA in all of their trucks.

There are plenty of other reasons why GM is using IFS as much as possible. Better handling and better ride are two big ones.

SFA rules off-road. IFS rules on-road and in most off-road situations (not rock crawling). More people drive their trucks on than off. It's as simple as that.

With a thought process like this, it's no wonder you don't understand people like me. :-P
