Name this winch??? Rebuilding a Vic Hickey Sidewinder

That worked out great! Thank you very much @Larry for taking the time to post those and the pictures from under your truck! :thumb:

That will be supper helpful when the time comes to get the winch back on in the proper position! :waytogo:

Got my slide hammer to fit under the gear, came out easy after it has been soaking in WD40 for a week.
The bearing is still stuck in there, we tried to hydrolic it out by filling it with grease and tapping the gear back into it. That didn't really do anything but the grease in the bearing helped.
It actually sounds quiet and good enough that I am just going to use it as is.

trick I was told and used before is get inner race out and balls or rollers then weld a bead on the race left and the weld will shrink it up to make them about drop out on the floor.

just make sure you have no.s off it or replacement already .

Not sure, but its probably a big pain in the ass to change that bearing out later once it's together and on the truck. Take the time to do it right once, or you'll take it again later to redo it.

Think there is any chance of cleaning that mess up and it works again??

Those windings may be lacquer or epoxy coated, you don't want to use anything abrasive on it unless you absolutely have to. That evaporust will clean the crap out of it, just let it soak for a bit.

I'd see if you have a starter/generator shop locally you might be able to send it in to have it rebuilt. Those shops are getting fewer and far between for sure, but it would be right up their alley to clean that up and rebuild it.

I'm way to cheep for that...this is just a see if I can kind of project.

If it comes to it i'll get a new or replacement motor.
That cracked housing is the main thing i'm worried a about...if that turns out good i might think about spending some money on it? If that turns to shit it's parts! :haha:
