Just find the numbers on the ring gear that will tell you 2:73 is really low or high depends on how you say it 3:08 is the highest I have heard of in a truck. Were the rub marks in the oil or in the metal
rub marks are engraved in the metal. you can clearly see every tooth rub from the pinion.kgblazerfive said:Just find the numbers on the ring gear that will tell you 2:73 is really low or high depends on how you say it 3:08 is the highest I have heard of in a truck. . Problem was he would not stick to one butter knife....
. I think all our knives had welding marks on them...

newlyblzed said:well I got my carb today...it came from a buddy who had one lyin around in his dad's garage. I brought it home and immediately tore it apart to clean it and rebuild the damn thing. From the outside they look almost identical..but theres a small difference inside...old one has an additional chamber in the fuel cell..nothing in the chamber but a plastice filler...don't know what it was for but my damn rebuild kit won't work so I am headin down to schucks to try and find a new kit!

yeah...mine is an 80 Q Jet (believe the model was M4ME??) and this new one is an older model...not sure what model but it came off a 72. I didn't know what year it was when I started. Tell you the truth when I got the second one the first was already tore apart and from my recollection they looked identical...Close enough anyway for me not to think about it carefully. In hindsight obviously mine was electric choke mounted on the carb housing, the new one is manual choke. don't know if that explains the extra chamber or not? But besides that I went to schucks got a new rebuild kit now I have the second one all back together and most the way on. I am trying to figure out how to run vacuum lines and linkage. All the linkage works except the damn choke!! a little frustrated over it but going to go back out in a minute and figure it out.Izzy said:Ummm. you know what type of carb it is? That might help explain extra chamber... Sorry dont mean to sound like and Arse...![]()
