New TOY (pun intended) !!

Well, I previously recommended LCE for their high quality timing chain kits with steel guides. I have to retract that. It seems that for what ever reason the past two sets I got from them (one last year) had the metal guides. I recently ordered a set for the turbo truck and it didn't have them. When I called about it I was told that the metal guides are an option even though the pic on the page clearly shows metal guides and not the plastic guides, and that I had gotten the metal guides in the past. There is a footnote on the page that the pic may not be exactly what comes in the kit, but I felt this was deceptive. To LCE's credit they're sending me the metal guides at no charge, but I think I'll try a set from enginebuilder next time.

They say they are the engrblder ones, is this true or do they just use the picture do you think?

Thanks

Thanks k5Steve.

Sold some tires today and got 500 bucks. I only owe 800 now on my toy. Then I will beable to get the timing chain kit for her.

I will look to ebay when I have the money then, whenever I can save money is a plus!

Is there a write up somewhere that I can use to swap in the new timing chain and guides? I am having troubles finding the 88 service manual still.

Thanks

Bump to the top.

I also want a SFA 4runner (my dad always wanted one) and a early pickup, 81 or so one day haha. Dang!!

I just picked up a Toyota frame yesterday...gonna sit in a shed for about a year but after that it's gonna get a cab, tubed front and rear, full widths, and probably the drivetrain out of my chevy. :D

Wow I should start hauling Toyota's to Canada. You guys get a premium for them up there.

I bought a 84 4Runner with no real rust (some surface from scratches and dings and way to many trips through the car wash, NO rust through anywhere underneath) for real cheap because it was missing the transmission. Sold the running engine to beater74 for his project toy. Kept the case for a doubler, kept the axles. Gave the body to a good friend who will put his running gear for his 80 with rusted out frame in it.

Bought my 86 4Runner for $1450 US. 86 is a loaded SR5. Power everything, good tires, Put $200 into the tranny for repairs. Front axle from the 84 will eventually make its way under the truck with a SAS as will the gearbox off the transfercase. Motor has developed a knock but the crank kit from engine builder is $180 to fix that. Weekends work and I figure It will go another 150k (it has 220k now). I Fixed the A/C for $50....it will frost my glasses. Absolutly rust free. Paint is a little faded and a couple dents in a fender and the driverseat is well worn. Only thing that doesn't work is the cruise control. Gets 21 mpg. Plan on a Macco paint job to spiff it up and looking for a set of seats.

Go read the FAQ in the toy section of Pirate4x4. Everything you could ever want to know or do to a toy is listed there. Look for the flatbed pictures thread. Lot of good ideas in that.

I love our 4runner,the 87 that is.It is the most reliable vehicle we've owned yet. We're going to be sticking some 4.88's in this summer so it should really wake up the torque of the new motor. The truck has 242,000 miles on it with 5,000 on the new motor.I always frequent Yotatech.com.It's an awsome sight.

Yeah I'm on yotatech a bit. It's a good site.

Another question. I stalled it on a steep hill today (doh:o) and I couldn't get it to start. It wouldn't turn over or anything. I rolled back and it started though. Why does it do this? Is this normal and is there anyway around it (can't roll back, if there is a car behind me) or do I have to roll to start it?
Thanks

It's efi right?I don't know why it would die like that if it is.Mine, when it's cold outside just gets a click from the starter.I have to just keep trying till it starts so I have to replace that.

I don't get it. It always starts up fine. but when I stalled it, it wouldn't start back up. The battery wasn't dead or anything. It made a sound when I turned the key, may have been the starter.
I don't know?? Maybe something to do with the gears and something?
I don't know...

How much gas did you have in the tank, maybe the pick-up was uncovered. Or maybe the oil pump pick-up was uncovered--no oil pressure- no start.

I had a bit more than a quarter tank of gas.
It was so steep that the pickups would be uncovered though I don't think. They can't be that sensitive?

Thanks
