Newbie swapping 350s, need tips, advice, warnings!

As long as you get all the "wet" oil and sludge out ,that'll be good enough..after 4 cans of brakleen it shouldn't have anything left that can get on the clutch disc..

that's kind of what I was thinking. thx for the confirm.

so... going back in, very soon, what is the opinion: Headers on or off before dropping motor?

so, is it POSSIBLE that the distributor from my 1975 350 may not fit the 1972 350 that I am ready to put in? (it seems like the shaft is too long by about 1/2 inch)

Should work fine

Take a flashlight and look down in motor to make sure you have it clocked right. Had them sit high till found right spot and it dropped right in then.

The distributor neexs to drop into the oil pump drive which is why its sitting high. You can just bump the stsrter and it should drop ss soon as it lines up...

Well,
Engine IN.
Now to put all the other stuff back on! Had to order a new alternator bracket--sigh. Headers are looking good to. Hope it runs!

Well, getting there, have yet to hook up the carb, fuel, guages and wiring. But most everything else... have to work in my "spare" time after the day job, so plugging away an hour or two here and there. My fuel pump to carb line was kinked, so I had to fix that (they are boogers to find and at what cost!!)

You most likely wont find one thats pre-bent like the original..at least not for cheap if any exist.
I'd just buy a length of the right size tubing (5/16" or 3/8") and bend it myself--or you could cut out the kink, and splice your existing one with rubber hose--maybe a good spot to add a universal gas filter too,if it lacks one..

I tried that. Total nightmare. LMC has them, worth the price.

Fortunately the kink was at the end of the line, so I cut it off, and replaced it with rubber, good as new.

Now to work all the bugs out of the new install. When I recently installed a new small block, it took several weeks and several short drives to work them all out.

it SEEMS like I have most of them worked out.. This oil leak has me baffled, and disappointed. One quart leaked in about a hundred miles. Clear oil is hard to track down too!
