noJeeps 2001 duramax Frank - new headlights

What!? A 9 thousand dollar Duramax? Sign me, up I've been looking for years to buy a Duramax without getting a second mortgage. I guess I need to come look in Michigan because that doesn't seem to exist here. The biggest piles of shit totally rundown, rusty, interior shot, everything is broken still bring 15 grand.

That's said I had no idea you could buy any dmax for 5 grand in any part of the country. More or less this one is CLEAN compared to the huge buckets that go for 12-15 around here.

Well when I saw the prices on some last year I thought I was in good shape. I started at 12K for mine, and ended up selling for 8500 after 6 weeks.
When I showed the receipt for injectors but I did the work everyone was skeptical. It’s not like the truck was beat.

Huh. Maybe prices are finally coming down. I looked at a 04 last year, on a little craphole corner lot, 4 door long bed, looked like a old rusty bucket at a construction site, not a straight panel on it. 398k on it. I thought ok, this is a complete pile of shit, should be 5 grand, had to call the dealer on Monday. I was quoted 11,995.
LoL, I wish I would have known you were selling yours. I probably would have give 12k sight unseen for a ck5er.
Of course I was "selling the farm" last year so to speak to buy my house so I guess there is that.

Meh whats done is done. I got what I needed to have a decent payment on my 2015LML. I still miss that lb7, but the amenities and ride quality of my new truck is way better.

I'm thinking I might need new thermostats, I drove it in to work this morning, and that is all the engine got up to, the ambient temp was in the mid 50's.

They don't warm up well. Even with new tstats it took about 20 minutes for it to warm up. Get a high idle switch for those colder morning, or plug in the block heater.

Have you tested the top rad hose when its cold for hardness. Or pressure in the cooling system. Not trying to make you worry but I would check.

as near as I can tell, that's perfectly normal. I run a grill cover on mine all winter and it still runs cold most of the time.

Forgot to check if my hose was hard...

Did get the last of the shocks changed out though, as well as the front and rear diff fluids. Why does gear oil have to smell so bad? Makes me dry heave a couple times every time I catch a wiff of it.

How many quarts does the trans need in a service change? The information I found online (you know, that most trust worthy of things, the internet) said 7.5 quarts with a filter. So I pull the plug in the pan ('bout damn time GM) and the filter, install new filter and put 7 and a half bottles of fluid in, and it doesn't register nor will it go into gear. I had to buy another gallon of fluid and I'm adding it a quart at a time until it registers how it's supposed to. I ran out of light and had to stop at 9 quarts total added, and it's still not acting quite right. By the looks of the old fluid, the previous owner never changed the fluid, it was dirty, and brown, but not a burnt brown, just a dirty brown. Didn't smell bad.

I'm really hoping the last bit of my order from summit shows up, as it has the 20 quarts of oil I need to do my engine oil change, and I want to get it changed tomorrow before I head over to my brother's in the afternoon. It had to be shipped ground freight, so it's slow coming, but everything else came by ground as well, so what gives? I dunno.

One last thing, I cranked the torsion bars a bit to get rid of the rake that comes on these things from the factory. Since it hasn't left the garage yet, no pics. Hopefully tomorrow.

One more one last thing: thank you GM for finally putting a drain plug in the differential! That was a pleasant surprise. I can return the gasket I bought for the rear diff, as I didn't know about that plug, and nothing in the oil that came out gave me reason to inspect further.

I was thinking while in the shower, that it makes sense that I'm having to put more trans fluid in than what information I found online indicated. I have a 16 quart drain pan, and it already had 5 quarts of oil in it from the Yukon a few weeks back, so 7.5 quarts would fit just fine. But so much came out that it wouldn't all fit, more like all the contents of the trans came out. Not a bad thing, just slightly annoying because I'd have liked to have known that, but now I do for next time.
