Will one live long behind a strong 454/sm465 combo?
37"s and 1tons finish it out.

Forgot to mention the 'moron behind the wheel' variable.. lol

Keep it from bashing on rocks and it will be ok , but I wouldn't be doing any 5500 rpm clutch drops on pavement

Maybe 2

Don't drive dumb or jump it and bottom out the driveshaft

Shouldnt be any air time. And mostly around here all I got is rutted up mud roads. Sounds like I should be fine I guess. I do plan on swapping to a 205 or 241. Just may be quite a while.

I'll just take it easy for now then.... Pretty much just wanted a confirmation of limitations. I'd be more worried if I had 44"s or something.

Well I broke one with a 377 small block and a 37 mtr's but I was doing very stupid things . And it did make it home , barely

I have lines on a 400/205 combo for cheap. But it needs rebuilt. Not sure if it'll stay around long enough for me to get the money up though. I'm crossing fingers lol

241 before 205? Yeah the 241 is a bolt in for the 208, but the 205 is virtually bullet proof. Care to elaborate?

Better low range, no significant strength issues compared with a 205...

241 guts live inside ORD's magnum box, NWF black box, etc.

Keep the 241 from bashing off of the rocks and full of fluid and it is a good case

Definitely switching to an auto eventually. Figured I'd look at swapping to a stronger TC and either non-slipyoke or one with decent SYE availability then. Just wanted to know what the limits we're with this until then.

The moron part is kinda hard on myself. I've never broken anything 4 wheeling. And only couldn't recover the vehicle myself once. But I bought the truck for midlife stress relief.... So anything is possible now lol.
Once I get my foot in to the skinny a few times I may or may not lose some control of that :burnout:

keep a lookout for a np241 out of a dodge..direct bolt in and it had a factory sye

241 before 205, but 208 should be fine...

Moron behind the wheel is a huge variable though...

I like the 241, (enough that I keep every one I come across) but I just gravitate towards the 205 it's simpler , stronger, more compact, and it's easy to configure the way I want .

I would never swap a out a 241 for a 205 . But if I am replacing a 208 or 203 I tend to lean towards the 205 . But I also like SM465's and NV4500's so the gearing difference doesn't mean as much to me.

They're passenger drop then?
I didn't know that... Good info:waytogo:

yeah far as I remember the years are same years as the 241 came in Chevys. Dodge just got smart and lost that awful slip yoke

I have a friend of a friend who rebuilds transfer cases. when he does a chevy 241 he will just order a dodge case, swap all the guts over and then throw on the factory SYE

I wish I had pics of all the broken 205 parts I had. The 241 will handle more power than the 205, as per GM themselves. Obviously it won't handle being dropped onto a rock like the 205 will, but other than that and the twin stick the 241 is just a better all around unit.

Add a SYE and some 1410 yokes and the 241 is going to be the same and better as any 205 with 1410s. Not to mention it already has a 32 spline front output. I bent several 30 spline ones.

The 205 has it's place, and it's behind a 241 or a 203. Or in a truck that already came and still has it.

Insert roasted 203 bits for example.

I just found a 241 from a 90 burb for $100. So if it's still there I'm snagging it this weekend.
