What is your wheelbase? I have a 700 with 208 and 106 for wheel base and my rear shaft is right at 30" from joint to joint.

Ira

if you ditch that slip-yoke, your shaft will get substantially longer:haha:

Is that all it takes? Boy my wife will be happy when I go doubler then:D .

Ira

thats what im doing;) suposed to make it grow bout 6" or more...dont know of any pills that can work that kind of magic.:haha:

Now to blatently hijack Rene's thread. I wonder if it is economically feasable to SYE my 208 and run a new rear CV shaft. Back on topic, where are the new pics? Is this really real time or were we swindled?:D

RENE: i am doing this swap this summer once i get my summer job. i have a '73 454 big block and i was wondering what bellhousing you have. i really want to do a hydro clutch cuz it feels like my linkage is going to break with my really HD clutch. i also want the newer nv4500 with the higher first gear/ one piece mainshaft. what clutch are you using? keep posting, were all rooting for you, and by now, eyes glued to the screen. answer when ever you have time...does any one else have any ideas??thanks

Yeah this is still realtime. Today was spent scouring the junkyards for some stuff I needed. I can take pic's if you want, but nothing too exciting. I grabbed three Furd tranny X-members for donor material for the doubler contraption I'm about to build. Also snagged an S-Dime 5 speed shifter boot, and finally at the third yard I rummaged through I finally found the 5 speed shifter I've been needing. GM wanted $185 for it...I got this one for $10 and a bit of my time and patience. It works very well with the S-Dime boot too (which looks so much better than the K-series boot IMO)

Regarding the bellhousing...I used the AA bell for "All GM V-8's to NV4500" It is cast and machined for hydro clutch. The crap part is that the slave it's machined for is a Jeep slave. :doah: You may not have seen my other post on the trouble i had with this bell...so I'll recap here so it's all in one place. The pocket for the starter nose needed to be ground and die grinded so the starter would bolt up. Not just a little...almost 1/4" in a few places. Apparently this is somewhat common on AA bells. It's kind of surprising to me, because the rest of the bell looks very well done to my eyes.

Tomorrow is doubler crossmember day, I'll try and post some realtime pic's as I build it...I'm going to try and use factory tranny mounts stuff (for ease of replacement down the road)

I tried to find a Luc Pro-gold clutch but had no luck, so I went with the Hays "Super Truck diesel clutch". Got it through Jegs for a little under $250. It's a diaphram clutch, 12 1/8" diameter.

Not making a ton of progress today. I cut the floor and raised the whole thing up a bit...

Might be clearer in this pic. The camera doesn't like the suns reflection off the concrete under the truck.

Shifter, and boot I found yesterday...and the triple sticks.

Once I get the crossmember done I'll post up some more pic's.

Got a start on the crossmember. A 180 degree hoop is the base that everything else will come off. Borrowed the idea from Steve's UAV crossmember that 4x4 iron built and ORD modified.

Welded up. Had to kink the one leg over just a bit for front driveline clearance. I think it would have been OK as it was, but wanted to hedge my bets a little.

Side view bolted up...25" clearance underneath.

Rear view...

This last one is an underside view...and it's a bit blurry :doah: Hopefully you get the idea though.
