OFFICIAL* Dante's Peak Suburban Build *

I checked truck out when I got back from funeral and it was looking good. The thing made me think of a battle ship! He has put three coats of primer on and said he would start painting the in sides of the doors next week.

Still a little shy on the paint money but working on it; check the for sale section next week.

I was just thinking about this and how you were getting on with the build, glad to hear it's still going :waytogo:

Hopefully you have something useful to me in the classifieds ;)

Took these Friday he said they were going to put sealer on this coming week he had the inside jams and doors done.

SO.MUCH.SANDING.....

Cool to see the progress!

Yea and taking the door handles on and off each time you paint they are on loose but still it is that or have the sanding dust all inside. I was only hoping for a decent paint job. Say a concourse paint job is a 20, a show paint job is a 15 and a showroom paint job is a10. I would of been happy with a 10 but I think I am going to be closer to the 20.

What I like is he is not rushing so it won't be sitting under snow with green paint. I still need to get the rest of the dough lined up but I have time. Still trying to find things to try to sell too.

Well I found out that one of the Suburbans went to Universal Studios Experience Beijing. This was in 1998 and no one I have talked to knows what happened to that truck. It may still be there or was sold off.

So we now have the auction one that is in COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA and this one, that makes two known and two unknown. No pictures of the one that went to China but maybe some day.

Awesome build. I have always liked that suburban in the movie. I really want the snorkel setup for my blazer. Also liked your Facebook page

Thanks depending on when UPS shows up I am going to check out the truck either Thursday or Friday. Did you see the shirts and other items? http://shop.dantespeaksuburban.com/

Also got some stills for the web page when it goes live. All in all Roger Donaldson (Director) has been great. Be sure to share the FB page with your friends and Thanks Again.

Well got bad news some ashat stole the carrier and :hack:it up for scrap! I just got an email from the member who had it. So now the build is in jeopardy. I am heading to crawler to see what I can find on CL.

Frack! Frack! Frack! :angry1:

Yep, here's the PM I sent to Lawrence regarding the carrier.

Lawrence, I have some bad news now.

I finally found a one-piece box that was perfect to fit the carrier in and had it stored in the shop ready to get everything packed. I had the carrier on a bench outside my shop in a well lit area and then one night someone came over to my place and stole the carrier along with some other small pieces of steel here and there. They also stole all the copper tubing I had ripped out my home because I am installing PEX tubing now. I had tossed all the copper tubes outside by the bench on the ground. I also had old wiring ripped out of the bathroom and all tied up ready to cash in for copper scrap.

About a week ago I noticed everything was gone. Just like that. I also noticed a few footprints in the melting snow around the property, too. Since then we got hit with 12" of snow on Tuesday so everything is covered up now.

I did file a police report and they already had a suspect because of a few others filing reports also. They did a search on the dudes property and found all my stuff, carrier, too. The damage was already done because the dude cut up the carrier with a torch to make them smaller for scrapping.

I get nothing out of this from the dude or the police. They won't let me take the copper back because they can't verify how much exactly is mine, etc. So I'm at a loss for the copper, too.

Let me know your Pay Pal addy and I will gladly refund your $100. I just feel terrible now that your project is getting held back further because of a simple part.

Meanwhile I will search around and see what I can find for you. I'm thinking of looking for the Valley carrier as they're pretty close in design.

Again, my apologies for all this. I have anger to deal with now and also court date to show up and testify against the loser.

Looking for help on info to show the value of the carrier to see if the loss can be recovered.

Awh S***!! can something else be adapted in the interim, like a full size Bronco, Trooper etc?

Found one that might work for a Bronco it is NOS and located in Salem Oregon. Any one close to it? I also will need Brackets hope the jerk didn't steal them.:doah:

Yea I think this jack off needs his hands cut off for being a thief!

On the search man. I might be able to find a bronco one.

That will be close enough right? If I can talk the guy out of it it will be cheap to free. If you can find one in Salt Lake I am sure someone down there could hold on to it till you went through and we could put it on when you get here

The one in Oregon guy said he would ship it total $150. To use it we need the hinges and tailgate part for a Blazer and weld in the outer flat bar.

I hope you at least got the scraps back? Worst case, you could weld the original one back together while you look for a replacement.....
