Okay so oil was POURING out and...

Yeah and we got the motor a few years ago from city motors and don't have a receipt, although I doubt they would fix it anyways. Might just drain oil and take oil pan off and hopefully I can get to it from there

The oil an has nothing to do with being able to get at that plug. Just use one of the square style EZ-out extractors and it should come out, just be careful you dont break the extractor or you're screwed.

I am going to recheck later on today because I don't think an old plug is in there but then again I could be wrong and I hope I am lol.

So basically tap the extractor in with a hammer till it is set and then twist it counterclockwise with a crescent wrench? Sounds simple, im goin for it!

That port has obviously been worked over. Retapping it is the only long term solution. Can't really tell from the picture if something is in it. If you pull the left wheel and tire and the fender well, you can get to I fairly easy.

This stinks....Its all setup otherwise though! lol 3 months of work all comes down to one hole :doah: Thats life I guess

Yeah just checked and there is nothing in the hole. So I will be taking off tire and fender well to get to it today. Okay my question is do you guys thing I should take oil pan off or something because my guess is a lot of metal shavings are going to get in the oil which I would think to be a bad thing. I guess I could take my time and pull it out often and clean it with a q-tip to reduce the amount of metal going in the oil...Whats your guys' input on this? I'd rather do it right because I plan on building this truck to be a solid rig and I'd hate to be on a trail with oil gushing out :haha: Well im off to class now but I'll keep you guys updated! Hopefully I am good at tapping lol

Your problem is, that hole is now over sized. So next size up is needed. High quality drill bit and NPT tap is needed. You should use a lot of tapping oil, bur don't spray it into the hole. Just on the tap. For every full turn of the tap, remove it and pull the metal out with the q-tips. Should be ok.

You can put some heavy grease on the tap and qtip to trap the shaving for extraction. And also use a shop vac to help get the shavings out. You do not want them in your oil.

Also make sure the tap is square to the hole or you end up cross threading the hole and just becomes a bigger nightmare.

And if none of that works. Stick a bolt im that fits tight and weld the biotch shut.

I'm about 99.9% sure there is something broken in that hole whether it be the original steel galley plug that someone drilled a hole in to try and remove and forgot to remove it or a broken piece of a sender. I have circled an area of that hole that has a too perfect radius to not be the outer circumfrance of the broken piece I believe to still be in there.

Also if someone were to have drilled the threads out of the block that hole would be HUGE.

Forget welding it thats not going to work. You could put a piece of bolt in it and braze it shut but dont do that either.

I will say that a long time ago I had a sending unit brake off like that. A course machine thread screw and some epoxy sealed that puppy right up for 5+ years. Thats not the right way to do it though.

Drill it out and tap it with grease on the tap slowly. Theres absolutely no reason to pull the motor to tap that. Go buy a tap driver for a ratchet and go to town.

Also what the hell were you doing with that thing for 3 months? Working on it for 15mins at a time?

Every Sunday for the past three months...Oh yeah and when I bought it everything was spread out in their garage. Made for one hell of a puzzle but now we are real close...Went to the junkyard today and got a pretty rusty billet grill but took some steel wool to it and now it looks new:waytogo: Installing it right now. It came off a burb and I'm 99% sure it will fit lol

Also what are your guy's thoughts about using the heli coil idea? Will it leak? Will it pop out because of the pressure?

I don't think there is a heli coil for pipe plugs. At least it never crossed my mind to use one.

You're over complicating this. Theres a broken sender in there. Drill it slowly and pick the remains out and put a plug in the thing and be done :doah:
