Old Iron 2.0

Got the tires swapped over to the 8 lug wheels today.

Got them mounted. Got the shocks bolted up.

Shitty auto parts store double flare tool broke on me... second one in the last few days. Broke the nipple off of the 3/16" die on the first tool. Broke the flaring bar on this second one.

I've been looking at the Ridgid 345 flaring tool. Gonna break a few more parts store ones making like 3 or 4 flares then invest in the Ridgid.

I've only got one 1/4" line left to flare, it's one under the truck. I think the 1/4" die only has one flare left before the nipple snaps off. I think it may be this coated line that I have, shit is really hard to work with. I also have four 3/16" flares I have to do.

Thanks for the kind words!

Wife said she doesn't want me taking the kids om our trip to CO while towing the Jeep behind the truck. Got a really decent quote on shipping it, cheaper than what I paid to have my SWB shipped from CO to TN when I moved here 3ish years ago.

It will only cost me roughly $100 more to have it shipped vs. the U-Haul dolly and extra fuel.

Heat the end you want to flare before you flare it, usually keeps the end intact better

And shipping for the win!

UPS tracking info said my ORD brake lines were delivered.

Forgot to mention that I picked up some new JB7 calipers and some cheapo brake pads for the Dana 44 about a week or so ago. Rotors on the 44 look good.

Those JB7 calipers are going on my Dana 60 when it goes under anyway. Figured I'd throw them on the 44 so I didn't have 1/2 ton brakes on both axles.

Might have a running/moving truck today.

Pic of the lines.

The stuff to the right is stuff that I got from RuffStuff a week or two ago in prep for the flex lines. Come to find out the ORD lines came with everything...

Best place I could find to mount the tabs.

No friction points, no kinked line, no interference with the U-bolts and it's nice flat place to mount the tabs. Was gonna mount them on the axle tubes but they wouldn't have sat flat.

Just have to make sure I route the hard lines away from the bump stops.

Got the rear done.

Hard lines look like shit lol. They're away from the bump stops and flared good so there shouldn't be any issues.

Planning on redoing all of the hard lines in the next few months. Been looking at that nickel/copper line.

Ran into a problem with the JB7 calipers...

The banjo fitting on my front flex lines is in the shape of a cross. The casting around the banjo bolt hole on the JB7 calipers is almost a full circle so the banjo fitting is nowhere close to seating properly.

Kinda stumped on what to do there. I've got a sheared off bleeder bolt in my passenger side caliper which I may possibly be able to get out and then reuse both 1/2 ton calipers for the time being or I can take the flapper wheel to the castings on the JB7's and knock them down flat (I don't like this option). New flex lines are out of the picture.

I'll try and work the passenger side caliper tomorrow. I've got some EZ-Out's and some reverse drill bits floating around somewhere.

Cut them lugs off the banjo fitting.

It still wouldn't fit (that was my first "solution" last night), if I cut the lugs off I would still have a square fitting that wouldn't fit into the casting on the JB7's, the square part is larger than the inmer diameter of the circular casting.

Threw the new pads in the calipers.

Flared the last line and got everything hooked back up then cranked down all of the fittings.

Waiting on my Wife to get out of the shower so we can bleed these brakes and check for possible leaks.

Couple pics of the new setup. Not beautiful but it should work fine.

The truck is mobile and the brakes stop on a dime.

I don't think I had any issues with the rear brakes locking up before the fronts... I'm gonma assume that I would know if it had happened.

Had one leak while I was bleeding the brakes, it was where my hard line connected to the flex line on the rear passenger side. Tightened the fitting a little bit and was good to go.

Tried to burn my tires but that didn't happen. I'm thinking having the same size calipers on all four corners may have something to do with that.
