First two pics are with safety beads, The last one is without. You can see the one without is smooth and the one with has a ridge.

Black rims make it harder to see...yeah they should be white...Whatever...

I don't plan on having these tires aired down. Free tires and basically free wheels (the stuff I traded for the wheels was free to me). Just something to drive around on, eventually I will pony up and get some 17's and buy some tires but for now these will do just fine.

On another note I got some stuff from RockAuto yesterday or the day before.

Honestly I can't see the difference.
For sure! Those pics do suck! Lol! I'll look for a better " white " rim to take a picture of, the black ones don't show for shit. Unless Martin or someone comes up with something first. I know it doesn't matter and i'm in the same boat as you... the cheap one! But the safety bead question always seems to come up? Martin did have good pics but Photo Bucket now sucks ass and we will all have to repost a lot of lost reference pictures. Too Bad!

Externally I can tell that my wheels don't have an inner safety bead.

On the outer bead I have ridges so it is hard to tell the difference for me from the outside anyway.

I know if it doesn't have an inner bead then I don't have an outer. It is what it is.

I'm gonna run the tires at normal street pressure and I'm sure I'll be happy.

I did some reading up on the 16.5. The taper on the bead is different than most tires, it's steeper if you will and there was no safety bead on lots of the 16.5's that were on trucks for the ease of putting on a new tire. I guess it was a marketing thing for farmers and people in rural areas that would have the need to swap on another tire with ease and minimal tools. At least that was what I got from the article (can't remember where I read it at).
 
My buddy Aaron has run those without a safety bead. Probably worth conversating with him about it as well
 
Update:

Closed on my house in TN today (Selling).

Ordered a slew of stuff today.

B52's
HD front shackle hangers
Shackle Flip
6" shackles fore and aft.
Poly bushings
D60 spring plates
D60 U-Bolt/Stud kit
D60 1350 yoke
D60 Pinion seal, washer and nut

Found a guy with some 56" springs local, he's asking junkyard price for the springs but he's already pulled them so that saves me some blood and sweat.

He also has an '88-'91 core support/grill/lights/wiring that I'm going to get from him.

He has a nice set of electric doors that I want too but I'm gonna ask him to hold onto them cause I don't want to spend too much cash at once.

Scored a set of x5 brand spankin new 37x12.5x16.5 Wrangled MTR's, never mounted on a wheel.

The plan is to air chisel/hammer all of my rivets this Saturday and replace the rivets with bolts to make things easier when my parts come in.

Gonna pull the old 35x12.5x16.5 BFG tires off of the 16.5 wheels myself and then take the wheels and new tires to a shop to have them mounted and balanced.

After this little phase thing will probably slow down but I will be doing crossover steering, kingpin spring eliminator and bilstein shocks with ferd shock towers.

I've got 4.56 R&P and carrier for the 14FF. Needs new bearing pressed on. Gonna get some for the D60 and figure out how to install them.

I've heard people say that, but all "truck" wheels are like that, still today. 16.5", 17.5", 19.5", 22.5" 24.5", etc.

They will be just fine at anything over 10ish psi.

I would hold out and look for some 16.5" wheels with safety beads though.

My problem right now, is that my steelies have a slow leak, and if I don't catch it in time my tires go flat and it pops the bead. It gets old.
