I had wondered the same thing, but bypassed it because the engine should be running hotter if it pumped backwards.Any chance the coolant is flowing backwards on this?

I mentioned the cooling on this earlier being it's an L31, but I forgot to mention the reverse rotation water pump, you're right.Any chance the coolant is flowing backwards on this?
Do you have a serpentine belt system with the proper water pump is the questionplumbed backwards like it was a lt1 block?
This pump is clockwise.
belt style specific not block .This pump is clockwise.
This engine block needs reverse rotation.
As far as I know, reverse means counterclockwise
88926225 is the part number you need
that hose loop is not the best . air pocket can get trapped up there .And I do have the bypass installed.

Ill try this. just got to get some different fittings to shorten the hosesqueeze the hose closed at the water pump to intake. leave the heater valve open. See what the temps do.
tried no bypass at intake to pump on my L31 and did not work .squeeze the hose closed at the water pump to intake. leave the heater valve open. See what the temps do.
1 side of water pump 3rd hole to block . then it went up to head surface .Not sure where a by pass in a gen 1 block would be. Traditionally the heater was the by pass intake top right out, rad or water pump in.
