One bank running hot vs other.

Are you sure? Everything I've read is you need a clockwise rotation water pump if your running the old vbelts.

a example thread where it says it depends on what type of pulley system your using.

heres one from this forum

This pump is clockwise.
This engine block needs reverse rotation.
As far as I know, reverse means counterclockwise

88926225 is the part number you need
belt style specific not block .

and if water pump has bosses for p/s pump bracket 98% of the time it should be v-belt . . . serp belt has no bosses on the pump as brackets bolt to block only . .

Yes with those v belts it needs clockwise.

Do you have a heater? How are heater hoses routed?

Ill trim that hose down and see what happens.

I do have a heater. Routed with one hose going into the manifold and another to the radiator. I do have a heater block off valve on there as well for the summer time

squeeze the hose closed at the water pump to intake. leave the heater valve open. See what the temps do.

and just to make sure im not being dumb we are talking about the bypass hose im squeezing shut?

tried no bypass at intake to pump on my L31 and did not work .

if a L31 vortec 96-03 block there is no bypass port in the block for the water pump to feed from and this is why we need to do this and factory had that funky tubed water pump and intake to do it .

Not sure where a by pass in a gen 1 block would be. Traditionally the heater was the by pass intake top right out, rad or water pump in.

Im out of ideas aside from tearing it apart. Gonna let it ride for a bit and pull the plugs and see what they are telling me. maybe throw a 2nd afr gauge on it for the other bank

i.r. temp gun fire up dead cold watch each exhaust port temp . . note temps and report back .

i found a bad carb years ago this way 1/2 was half clogged up . . also found a bad injector not firing on a efi motor .
