One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

I took the truck on a short drive to my friend’s shop to work some final details before it’s fully drivable.

Naturally, we had to put it on the forklift. That’s 3’ of wheel travel, and the rear springs have more to give.







My 6.2L intake starter kit.



Other than the rear locker misbehaving, the truck is a blast to drive. It handles all the stuff our broken streets have to offer, which isn’t saying much, but it’s the first basic test.

We’re going to jam on it for a few days, and get these details knocked out. My dad is even planning to roll by and work on the new lighting package.

You’re right. I was impatient, popped that dude on, and just wanted to get to the intake and inner fenders. Both ends could use a fresh coat, especially since the sliders will be fresh.

Muchas gracias. It was quite gratifying to drive it and test it, and turned out to be a nice boost of motivation to get these last critical items done.

Way out back in the former spare tire holder. Around 20’ of 2/0 cable runs to the front.

Near final version of the airbox. The CDR is hooked up, and I just have to convert the vibrant catch can into an air oil separator.







The inner fenders are also coming along. My buddy really has the knack, and am eager to show that progress.

It’s crankcase depression regulator. Unlike a PCV valve, this one maintains a negative pressure in the crankcase.

And Demoise is killing it on the inner fenders.

Seeing how you were able to do that nice air box makes me think about relocating my batteries. Been wanting to clean up the engine bay, too.
