One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

They're called 'limb risers', and they push light tree limbs and tall brush up and over the hood to the roof. I'd never seen them until working on this truck.

I've seen these before, but I'm curious as to how well they work. I do a similar thing with my A-pillar and all that it does is wind up the tree so it wants to smack my face through the open window. So I've assumed that the limb would snap back and hit the windshield much harder once it got past the cable.

But if it works...I definitely have a use for that on my rig.

Sounds like a bush deal, obviously not something commonly used on the West Coast.

I've seen those "limb raisers" on a lot of Alaska rigs where the brush gets really thick.

I'm not dealing with really thick brush (at least...not yet!). So far it has been just barely thick enough to be annoying. But either way I'm taking notes.

Here's a quick photo to mark the truck's 33rd "birthday."

I'm 19 years old, and taking up the entire driveway and garage at my parents' house outside Dallas. The old 6.2 is out, and the M998 6.2 is going in. It's August, 100F+, and I'm spending all my summer money on the truck - I've learned nothing in the intervening decades.

It's been a boring few weeks for the suburban; taking me to/from the airport, making storage and Home Depot runs in preparation for the kitchen remodel, and getting steel and supplies in support of the Charger project.

Ain't that the truth for all of us! Lots of the same crazy projects, just a bit more budget to work with since highschool.

Hence the new artwork in my garage. Might as well embrace it!

Well. Crap.

I’m out on BB18. Got a very good opportunity at work - new role opening up - and I've been asked to interview for it. Those dates will conflict with the travel days required to get to Moab, and I have to start prepping for that whole process now. As @Spork929 told me, “the art of paying for the toys comes before the toys themselves.”

I hate that I’ll miss out this year, but I can't pass on the chance to level up. Y’all have a great time, and I’ll follow along from here.

Cabin 56 is now available at Moab Rim RV Park from 9/6 - 9/9.
