One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

Any thoughts/review on the bed slide? Been thinking hard about building one for both of my trucks..
 
Glad you liked it. Nate has the knack for editing. We’ll have to wait to see about the jeep crowd response.

Just watched it now. Knowing the truck from this thread and your IG posts, it's cool to watch and have your personal review of the truck with somebody else.

Reading the comments seemed pretty positive for a Jeep centric crowd for that channel. Really I think it gets down to a high-quality build shows through, regardless of the brand. People see it and having watched the other Trail to SEMA videos can see it can wheel with the best of them. Besides, the Jeep crowd is now starting to see what a badass this Suburban is.

Thoughts: investigate thoroughly both Bedslide and Cargoglide. I chose the bedslide because it's a fair bit lighter, 75% extension is enough for me, and it has plenty of weight capacity for my requirements. Cargoglide has more capacity, but is a substantially heavier design. I'd run a CG if it were a pickup, but be prepared to pay a premium.

Review: handier than pockets on a shirt. I'm not old, but I'm old enough to be tired of crawling up in the truck every time I need to grab something that’s not immediately at the rear of the truck. We carry a good amount of gear, and get into it with some regularity. I'm usually among the first to get out tools if someone is broken or just needs to work on their truck, and that's the role I agreed to play on the Trail to SEMA. We were in and out of the truck, a lot. The bedslide made that whole process a lot easier. Plus, it's freaking cool looking.

By far, you guys here know the most about the truck and my way of designing and building. That style meshed well with both Matt and Nate, and I think they have curated a following on YouTube that also reflects that. I got along with those two really well, and I may share some more build content with them - they're into anything offroad, and don't give a hoot what the brand is. There's certainly a wow factory associated with driving the truck on the same trails as jeeps and a buggy, and that's definitely what the Powerstop folks had in mind by inviting me.

As we all know, there are plenty of side eyes and odd looks from jeep folk during blazer bash and full size invasion. I just assume that's the look of disappointment, as they each realize they didn't have to shell out 60K for something that could run trails. They could have bought a crusty square, turned some wrenches, wheeled Hells or Rim or even Pritchett, and done it all without a monthly payment.

I think I had cargoglide in my pickup and your slide is a lower profile which is better.
Mine came at 6" high
 
A neighbor just asked me if my truck was a bronco.

I get asked that same question all the time. Stopped by someone's house to pickup some furniture and a guy driving down the road passes, stops, and reverses just to ask me if my truck was a bronco. They're always calling it either a K5 or a Bronco. But never or hardly ever recognize it as a suburban. I guess that means it's stealth machine.
 
You guys already knew all this about the truck, but the Bleepinjeep guys posted some non-jeep content, and I’m not sure how it will be received.

Good to see it back together again. I definitely chose the wrong week to come see it. ;)

It does seem a bit more "real" with moving pictures vs. static ones.

Yeah, folks around here think they all have something special, and I would have bought one a while back for 50-100. I just happened upon a real hotrodder that was happy to let his go for free.99.
My dad and brother have a couple I can borrow, but I would like to own my own at some point.
I’ve been on a liberal “borrow program” for a while now, but I’ll need it a lot for the Charger in the coming months, so I started looking.
