One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

Yeah, folks around here think they all have something special, and I would have bought one a while back for 50-100. I just happened upon a real hotrodder that was happy to let his go for free.99.

I’ve been on a liberal “borrow program” for a while now, but I’ll need it a lot for the Charger in the coming months, so I started looking.

See I didn't need one when I bought it.
Didn't use it till almost a year later.
I just like to have tools.
Now I have used it so much and once I overloaded it moving my crew cab that it's tweaked.
I am considering buying a new one or rebuilding modifying beefing up mine.
Already have a new air over hydro cylinder and an idea of how to make it better.

I have one but no idea which of my friends is currently in possession. Think I used it twice. But I'm spoiled with a crane handy

Mine is also bent, but I believe it to be just the casters.

Sand Hollow is on our list of places to wheel in the near future. My bro and I and our families try to do one wheeling trip a year (at least 3 or 4 days long, if not a full week). We did Grand Junction this last year and did 21 Rd too (one of my new favorite trails). We are thinking Sand Hollow either this year or maybe next. When we were single in college we spent a weekend there riding dirt bikes...in fact we camped right by the lake in your last picture. It was a blast, but we haven't wheeled there yet. Looks like they have so many awesome trails to try out there

I wish Kurt and I had more time there, but he needed to get back to Dallas. It's wide open, and there's no shortage of places to explore.
Absolutely gorgeous shots!!!!
It's so beautiful out there, it's hard to take a bad one.

Hey, y'all.

I'm doing a limited run of suburban t- shirts, and am glad to share with you guys here. This has already been posted to Instagram, but I know we're not all on that platform. With Mr. Fox's blessing, I'm sharing it here as well. The CK5-only discount code is preloaded into the link below, and the whole thing runs until 3/31/19.

Enjoy, and thanks to everyone that's been so encouraging to me over these last few years - from the Suburban to the Charger - CK5 has been the best place to share and learn.

Best,
David

Purchased! Can’t ever have enough black t shirts!
Totally agree, and thank you.
I am also a fan of black shirts. Ordered mine! Thanks for letting us rep David!
Got it. I was really excited to share the design.
Who did the artwork? I've been wanting to get some squarebody ink done in that style but not your sub. Lol
I worked with a local artist. He really got it down - all hand sketched and massaged in illustrator.

Went thru all 85 pages of your build. Very inspiring.

Unbelievable attention to detail, great story to start with, no doubt one of my favorite trucks ever.
That core support and the lines you did over to perfection amazing. You sir are an artist and your skills are over the top.
Well done. Keep it up.
Thanks for sharing it with us.

Wow! Thank you. I appreciate the kind words.

It’s been a great experience, and I have learned a ton through the process, hence the rework along the way. Learning by mistake is kind of my thing, and I’m glad to continue sharing that journey.
