One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

Has kris cut the back off that TJ yet? He had mentioned possibly getting some new corners from us when we had lunch with him.
Not just yet. He’s at Ian's doing a powertrain swap, and I have his shock tower and trailing arm files about done and ready for the plasma table. We still have a lot to do to tie all that junk together.

Got to visit the guys at Tribe16, and get the Maxxis 40s moved over to some new wheels.

KMC XD231 Robby Gordon specials. These have some nice details, and seem like they’ll do well. BB19 will be the test.

I get to shed the 2” wheel spacers, at 16lbs ea.

These have a better 80s look than the H2 wheels, though it will take some getting used to.

Those are nice! Are they actual bead locks or rock rings?
They’re functional beadlocks. The inner safety bead is also really wide (~1”) and a fuzz taller than normal. I think it will be a good piece of gear.
Those look good!!!
I’m pleased with the looks, and they balanced out pretty darned well for a 132 lbs combination.

If it all works well, I’ll unload my H2s. They’re cherry; never been wheeled.

Thanks! I’m excited, though they’ll take some getting used to, as I’ve had H2 wheels since aught-four, but it will be nice to air down lower than 17ish. That’s been my floor since I have seen a few other squares blow beads at 12.

David

@ 17psi you probably still had some decent squish with all the weight you have. I'm usually around 11-12psi on my H2's but I worry about blowing a bead.

Those look nice. We’re you just running rear spacers?

If so, backspace change, wouldn’t that push the fronts out wider too? Curious

Yeah, 8000 lbs might be a factor.

Most of us run spacers front and rear to make up for the 5.5” H2 wheel backspacing.
Yessir. 2” spacers all around. I liked them - really nice billet steel hub centric pieces. Heavy though.
Nice wheels!
Thank you! I should have done beadlocks a while back.
Those are very classy and sharp. It’s always great when function and form play nice together.
We’ll put function to the test quite soon.
