One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

A little lunch time fine fitment.

This is the position for articulated full stuff. With the coil plate in place, there’s 1/4” of rod still showing. I’ll lower another inch or so, set the bump to full stop at that point, and keep on.

If that’s articulated your good. No need to go more.
Don’t forget to put one spring on there and make sure that clears everything too

Crazy tight fit. Adding some more header wrap to the downpipe or a heat shield of some sort. That shock will never be cold.
It’s cozy. Too cozy.

I’m going to build a new oval downpipe to double the current air gap, and send it off to headershield for their super insulation wrap. If it works for bonneville streamliners, I trust it will work for my junk.

Engine cage is coming together.

This design leaves enough room to service the master cylinder, and clears the intake charge pipe.

We were 85 yesterday and it felt like 60 after the hot says here. Luckily we haven't topped the 100 mark this year, just flirted with it.

Tube work is looking good.

I like the outcome of a nice and clean notch; less so the metal dust cloud that comes with it, but there are no good shortcuts.

Crossbar is fully burned, and in the truck.

Then I jumped on this down bar. I’m planning a set of three, and this is probably the most difficult one, so I did it first.

This will be roughly mirrored on the other side, and there will be one more bar to grab the outer part of the panhard.

I think I could count those days on 1 hand.....
Same. They sure don’t come often, but when they do, I feel as if I’m mainlining the secret truth of the universe. It all just “clicks.”

Meanwhile, rain delay.

I’m trying to get all the hoop welding done today.

Waylaid at the day job, which has kept me from joining y'all in Moab. Big corporate America has me tethered to the derned phone and computer. Unfortunately, that's about it.

Well that sucks... but I guess we have to pay for these cool parts some how.

Bummer! I was hoping this ended with a mad thrash and a mad dash out West.

Maybe next year?

It’s been a minute. Let’s catch up.

One more down bar for the passenger side.

Looking good David

Sorry we didn’t see you at Blazerbash, but I put the box of Trail to Sema goodies out for all the folks to grab at the BBQ. Thanks for sending that stuff with @AugustDiesel !
I sure missed going, but was glad to see the photos trickle in on the social medias.
