One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

I think a tuba has less complex path from start to finish. Plus according to google, if you uncoiled a tuba (16 feet) it's still shorter than your exhaust.

You might need to borrow some mirrors and lights from a local high end car show guy so you can show that artwork off when you park it at an event.

Well done dude!

I’m truly unsure which is better: two hard 90s that crossover the exhaust to the passenger side where there’s plenty of room but still comes hella close to the driveshaft at full stuff and might not clear (my old design), or all these smaller 30* and 45* twists. The only full 90 is at the end, and it’s a big sweeper.

Either way, I’ve got 60ish hours in this one, from design to the last dab, and I learned a ton that I can apply to the Charger.
That exhaust is just... well... Tits!
Muchas gracias! I’m eager to run it.

I just fired my truck for the first time in 7 months. My backward smells amazing.

Many small details still to work out, but it was good to roll the key and hit it.

That's an awesome feeling. Happy for you.

You are so close to the end of that tunnel you can see the light and know it's not the train coming to run you down now.

Taking a break from fab, and just installing parts.

I always liked the lubelocker gaskets on the diffs, so it was nice to see they had a 4L80 option.

A whole mess of braided stainless from our friends at ORD

My dad rolled by and shot some grease in all the joints, and took the switch pros panel and new lights back to start making those harnesses work together.

More tomorrow.

Is that dark shrinktube standard issue on the ORD brakelines these days or is that a custom touch you added yourself?

I like that it tones-down the blingyness of the steel braid and lets the other fabrication stand out more.

I used the Lube-Locker on my 4l80e pan. As expected, no leaks after a couple years and a few thousand miles.
Outstanding. Again, it's good to follow in some well-worn tracks.

That's standard issue ORD bling-reduction black.

It’s cold out, but I’m still at it.

Brakes and the new master are filled and bled. I’m sure I’ll bleed a second time, but the pedal feels really good already.

Power steering is filled and roughly bled.

The modular pulley from PSC (PP2444A) is a nice piece. It’s 6” (rather than 6.5”) and you don’t have to remove the hub to service the pump. Also, I didn’t have to choke up on any idler pulley, and just slapped on a fresh serpentine belt.

I ran the engine up to temp earlier this week. So far, no leaks. The stainless exhaust does have a distinct “ping” to it.

I just need to fill the 205 and the 60, and the first test drive is imminent.

Getting close! Work is looking excellent as usual.

Love seeing that my bleed setup is the same as yours, system works awesome.

VERY jealous of that pulley. Have struggled so many times with the factory press on/off setup, ordering one right now!

Never knew that existed.

Keep up the excellent work!

I added the part number to the post. The stock pulley isn’t as responsive as I’d like, and hopefully this small change makes a difference.

Sweet! :saweet:

:burnout:

Engine fires right away. Steering is fully bled. Brakes need more bleeding. There’s a seal in the turbo that’s leaking oil into the exhaust.

Didn’t make it out of the driveway.
