One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

Hmm, I occasionally run OD on the trail when I don't want to mess with shifting out of low range.
From what I understand, if you have the gear selector in o.d. , the roller clutch has to hold by itself in every gear except 4th. If you drop it down to D or anything lower, the overrun clutch engages and helps hold.

Interesting. Most of the time I'm running the gear selector in lower gear selection so I should be fine in that regard.

That's just crazy! You sure it didn't get hot? That's extra crispy right there.
220 is as high as it ever got going up pikes peak, and it didn’t stay there long.

I’m sure I’m guilty of using OD when going up an obstacle.

Yeah that's not that hot. Parts say otherwise. Kinda odd.

What's the point of having an automatic ifnyou can't put it in drive and let it do its things. Even in low range.

Mines the 700 but I always just select od whenever I want forward motion.

New fuel line interface at the engine. This clears the exhaust and should be leak-free, unlike the old rubber hose stuff.

I also hogged out the back of the mount to clear new transmission cooler lines. That’s what’s next.

Also, I made that stainless supply line three times, because #scrapproducer.

I like it, came out really nice.

Why go to the stock line route though? Since you don't have the mechanical pump anymore you can put them anywhere. I went up the firewall from the driver side frame rail. Avoiding all the heat from either manifold and the downpipe.

Since I reused most of the supply and return lines, that kept me on the passenger side. This part avoids the exhaust by 6ish inches. Where things are closer, I have fire sleeve.

I do like the thought of running the fuel on the opposite side.

Ah, that's right. Makes sense to keep it on the same side then.

Well I'm glad you posted this last update but so depressed...

I need to run my trans lines in hard line and because of the 2wd to 4wd swap the lines don't exactly fit down the rail anymore. I just wish I could do the same craftsmanship.

Don’t be discouraged. Those trans line bends are far simpler than the fuel line here. You could do that by hand, and take your time.

I just ordered a set of trans lines, I'll make them fit.

I need to do fuel lines next, I was thinking of doing it in hard line but I don't want to spend the $75 on a line straightener I'll use once.

Ducato 4L80 - done
Rotating assembly - balanced within a gram
Summit getting another couple of hundred dollars from me - yep

Time to build a short block and reassemble two of the three parts of the powertrain.
