One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

Now all it needs now is a Comet or Ajax paint restoration......

If you haven't seen it done, you'd be amazed at the results.

That's been my apprehension on doing one, where I grew up, tree branches will wreck everything outside the truck.
Try driving a camper through this stuff. Ron broke a window in his on LaSalle pass when we went to our first Blazer Bash. I've had junipers poke holes in my siding just missing my side glass.

Pines brush away pretty easy. Juniper and Joshua trees not so much. A rack like David's new one is almost streamlined in comparison.

I've thought about a roof rack on the crew cab for the Rubicon, but I'm afraid it's so tall anything in the rack would get tore up.
Fair concern. Net height add over the center of the roof is about 2". That's about 3/4" taller than then factory one. It's not an eight story con ferr camel trophy rack like in the old days, but it is extra up there.

I think a half rack on your rig would look really slick.

You misspelled "strip it bare, primer, base coat, and clear."

It's entirely possible I'm not seeing it correctly, but I look at the paint as a misadventure circa 2000. It's just the cheap paint job high school David could afford and the clear is flaking. You might reasonably see it differently.

Now, the bumpers and sliders are different. They need a fresh coat.

I would pick up the odd branch in the old rack with zero cross braces. Now there are eight. Solid chance of increased flora accumulation.

I'll definitely be watching to see how yours works out. I know you'll give it a good test!

You can’t peel the smile from my face.

It fits perfectly. The hardware isn’t going to be too tough, and I have enough scrap ally laying around to make mounts. The lower row gets just about zero flow, so I don’t need to sweat too much the flow for the bottom part of the shroud.

I just watched the BDR video. I wanted to lend my support and say that I'm a butt man too.
Butt loaf wins, every time.

That radiator and fan setup is amazing.
Works like a champ, too. I have more tweaking to do for airflow - opening up the core support, moving oil coolers - but the fans are an absolute game changer.

We watched it last night and were dying at yalls new business venture
I'll let everyone know when we take on investors.

Really glad you guys enjoyed the episode. The adventure was second to none. I'm behind on sharing photos here and really do need to, because a ton of footage had to be cut from the video.
