One Piece at a Time: My 1985 Diesel Suburban

I love tig welds, really wish I could get one but don’t want to spend 3k!
You certainly don't need to spend $3K to TIG weld. You can have a 200 AMP A/C D/C inverter TIG from Everlast for $1079 https://www.everlastgenerators.com/catalog-tig, Watch TIG welding tutorials, or Cameron Johnson Race Cars on Youtube, there's a lot of people using the green welders now. I love mine.

If you just want to TIG steel they aren't that bad.
Totally right. Skipping the AC when starting out is actually pretty smart.

Beat me to it. Everlast is the best value going, and their HF module (and probably other board level bits) is identical to the one in my Miller. The folks that are using versions after 2023 have commented that arc starts are every bit as crisp as a Synchrowave.

If you really want to learn to TIG, this is a pretty good time to get into it. Lots of products with good capability and great value. Get an analog DC machine, study, and start practicing. You don't have to spend a mint, but you do need to invest a good bit of time dialing in your technique. Clearly, I think it's worth it and I think you might, too.

Use stick welder, one of these, and a bottle.
Weld stainless and mild steel all day.
It's all we used when I was a millwright.

It's the pedal stuff and aluminum I could never get the hang of.

We ran through a lot of Seymour 2K bedliner. Anything not directly tied to passenger occupancy and comfort got this good stuff. It’s soft and grippy like an aircraft carrier deck. Raptor cracks and is brittle. This stuff stays soft and pliable like rhinoliner.

Under fenders, cargo area, roof, as a chip guard, the entire rear barn door surround, battery tray and cover, lower rockers, inner edge of outer fenders, and I think that’s it.

Reassembly starts Monday.
