Pics of my Dana 60 14BFF Install

Good deal! As soon as my tranny parts arrive from TCI, the old motor, tranny and TC are coming out and the 4l80 is headed to the builder. As soon as it comes back, I am gonna put it all in!:D

I thought you said the differential was your last automotive endeavor? Now your having the tranny built by someone else? :wink1:

Just kidding. Your doing a great job, it;s going to be a fun ride when you get done. That engine kicks @$$ and the 4L80E is perfect for it.

Your front locker install taught me which tool to buy after I tried the same thing this past weekend (putting a detroit in my D60 for the conversion) and when I used new of the same shim stackup I only have .002" backlash. I know what tool to buy now so I can remove the new bearings without destroying them and fix the backlash. I'll be ordering it today. :D

Keep up the good work, I look forward to seeing it in action!

By the way are you going to be doing something to prevent spring wrap and wheel hop? I have a feeling you're going to need it.

I've done tranny work and it all turned out good. I just dont want to invest the time right now to go through the learning curv of a 4l80e and the tools needed to build it correctly. I am trying to put my house back together from the flood right now as well. I do have a plan for wheel hop if it is an issue.:D

I'm beating you will have wheel hop and or axle wrap with 630HP!

I want to see that burn out comeing out of your shop on vid when your done !! REMEMBER you said you and your freinds all did it after you guys finished a project!

Well that's understandable. Sometimes when working on trannys you are thinking, "I don't want to do this again".

OK, I talked to TCI today and they swore to me they were shipping the pan and the planetary today overnight so I should have it in the morning. (I was supposed to have it today). I have burned the tank of gas down to fumes and rolled in with it stuttering this afternoon. The tank has to come out to run #10 with a new pickup to the tank. If the tranny stuff arrives tomorrow. The front clip, engine, tranny and tc are coming out this weekend and the tranny headed to the builder on Monday!

TCI Parts are HERE!! The old stuff is coming out this weekend!!!! More updates and pics to come later this weekend.:D

My tranny builder can't get to the transmission till July the 5th....next Tuesday.....so I didn't get everything out this weekend. I worked on the house instead. So, I took a vacation day and started ripping crap apart at noon today. I forgot how much fun it is to take 20 year old chit apart that alot of has never been apart. Nothing went right. My cherry picker would not get up high enuff. My boat is sitting under my big overhead crane and the burb is blocking it to move it. So, I had to use the wimpy warn portable winch to go about 15' in the air. I was a nervous wreck looking at it.....much less working around it. My brilliant custom red neck tranny jack I whipped up to get ahold of the tranny worked great....but I can't get it out from under the truck. I am going to have to get someone over tomorrow to help me man handle it off the jack and get it out from under the truck. Ever have a day when nothing goes right??. The mess I have made with fluid cocktails in my floor is gonna set a new record with this thing too.....I am still cleaning up where crap is still pouring out of everything.

I've been watching your build. Very Very nice job! Can't wait to see the new driveline in there!

Been there... I have shoved them off the floor jack onto the ground before. Lame. I vote a ratchet strap around the tail housing and one around the bell housing right in front of the pan. Then jack the trans up and get the straps tightened to the frame rails. then lower the jack leaving the trans suspended from the frame rails by the ratchet straps. Could work!

When I did mine I was going to have the same problem. I measured and what I ended up doing since I only have one jack is to lower my tire pressure way down. Then support the trans on the jack, and lower it down. Then I was able to air the tires back up and wheel the jack out with the trans on it.

Good thinking

When I took my trans out I looked at the floor jack adapter thing like you're using because I have that same Craftsman floor jack. I ended up getting a $50 Harbor Freight transmission jack instead and it worked a lot better.

It's usually the days you take off work specifically to get some work done that go so bad and you end up getting nothing done instead. Kind of like going in to work on Saturday or Sunday when you don't usually work those days. Nothing goes right and you just end up wasting your time.
