Pics of topless first gen's w/ roll cages/bars

That is a awesome looking cage! Great job on the seats too! Any more pic's on how you mounted it to the floor/or frame? Have been looking for new ideas for my cage, and yours really looks great! What size tubing did you use? It looks really beefy, is it heavy? Great job on that K5!

Yes, very heavy. I used around 100ft of 1.75" .125 wall DOM. 40ft of 1.5" for the seat mounts, and around 20ft of 1.25". I'd say its at least a 300-400lb cage. I know the 1.75" weighed in at 193lbs by itself.

The thing about cages like this is that you can't just use a typical measurement. Everything is trial and error. I can tell you this though: Hitting that front A-pillar leg to clear the glove box is a bitch. Really screwed us up for a couple days.

If I were to do another one, I would just start with b-pillar hoop and then work off of it. It would have made things much easier.

The floor tie-in is just a typical 5"x6" flat plate with rounded edges. The rears and the ones on the rear fenders are sandwiched with a slightly smaller plate from the bottom. The front two were positioned directly over two body crossmembers. FWIW, this cage could NEVER punch through the floor. There is way too much tubing under the seats and close to the floor for that to happen. And, if the cage ever pulled away, then the occupants would go with it and be safe in the cage itself since the seats and belts are tied to it.

Now, if this cage was going to be for a "hardcore" rig, then it would have more crossbracing that what you see. But, for a mild trail/camping rig, its way overkill.
 
Man, Addicted thank's for the reply info! Have been looking at cage setups for a while, and yours is just what I had envisioned in my mind! I am not a welder, but somehow I'm going to end up with a cage just like that in my 70 K5. Any more fabrication info/pic's? you could post for us? By the way, thank's for the info on the mounting setup, I have asked many Q's on this with no help. I don't think the weight factor of the cage will be a issue for my build, thank's again!
 
Man, no way I can drive it to Co, but I want my cage to look like that! Any way you can fab up the pieces, and make some kind of kit for me? I would be willing to pay more for shipping, and etc. I'm sure I can find someone to weld it in for me. You sure do awesome design and fab work! Have been looking at cages for 1st. Gen's for a long time, and your's is awesome! Any bumper idea's?

Nice simple cage, looks great, practicle... but most of all congarulations for stepping up after addicted and his disciples!

Addicted's truck is pretty incredible. I think he did Tarentino's deathproof one better... lol
 
Any updated pics or new setups from anyone? I love all the different ideas and styles everyone has posted up via pictures.
