Piecing together a full vert! (This Blows)

I hope so, the problem with the best painters is always they work at their own pace. But I didn’t trust myself to do as good of quality as I want and none of the chain or big fancy body shops will do a full paint job for under 10k even if there’s little to no body work

I look forward to seeing the finished product!

Finally got the elusive 73-74 fender emblems! I think they add a lot to the look of the vehicle.

Other than that not much added to the truck. I keep blowing out Master Cylinders and I think the problem is accounted to my great "idea". I cut and shortened the rod from the brake pedal to the booster to get some more leg room. In doing that I think it is adding too much leverage on the master cylinder causing it to depress too far and blow out the seals. So I am on a search for a original connecting rod.

That is looking awesome! Where are you storing the hard top?

I painted the hard top camoflage. ;)
Keep thinking about painting mine camo as well... just don't really want to store than big fricken thing.

Had knee surgery on Tuesday so was kinda limited on what I could do. This weekend we got a lot of rain and the wife was gone so I took my time and got some stuff done in the garage.
I upgraded my braking system to using a booster from a 1985 k20, M/C from a 2000 Tahoe, and a reservoir from a 2001 s10 for hood clearance. On some facebook groups people were raving about the upgrade so figured I would give it a try. I think it was worth it, stops better than the 3/4 ton M/C setup I had before also has a much smother feel to the pedal. I did have to get a push rod from a later model squarebody. Took me 2 trips to the junk yard to figure that one out. First I picked up one form a 1974 then found out it wouldn't fit the 1985 booster, had to go back a get a different one.

Since I was removing so much, I decided to upgrade the rear axle lines to the ORD braided ones. Way nicer than the rubber ones I had before, and so much better than the rough country ones I have up front. Was easy to install even with my limited knee movement and the perfect length.

Also came across these brake line holders to keep the lines from rubbing on things . The are made for heeps but worked great on my blazer, much better than the zip ties I had before. Just connects to the lower shock mount. I got them off of ebay teraflex 1101255.

Now for the big score. I picked up a pair of NOS GM doors and a fender, unused with stickers still on them. I did a test fit and even without moving the hinges they fit way better. The doors currently on my blazer are reproduction ones and there is a huge difference between the two.
When I first got the doors I was told they were originals. Had my brother pick them up for me. After taking them apart they were repos, I decided to just roll with them until I found something better.
Now I have these NOS ones to paint and put on!

Not much to report other than its been driving really well. I've been using as my daily on nice days, need a soft top to enjoy it every day.
Took it on a 6hr round trip to pick up a 1/4 steer from my parents farm. Ran like a top. While there took it on some of our logging roads. I'm surprised how cool this engine runs. Not too often the fans kick in. Must be the huge radiator.
Other than that I have been prepping the nos doors for paint. I am on the lookout for a portable tarp garage for a makeshift paint booth.
I am hoping to get it worthy of going to BB 2019. Should give me enough time to add a few extras to it.

If I were going to express any complaints so far would be it doesn't have much low end. Might remedy that with lower gears or a LQ9 or both this winter. I want to get a tuffy security console so I have a place to put my stuff and because cup holders. As mentioned above a soft top would allow me more use. The TC springs are not as soft as I would like but maybe they need more breaking in.

I’d do 4:56 but it’s your rig.

Is the 5.3 stock? Sounds like some performance upgrades might be in order

I wouldn't spend the time and money on a gear swap, and only go to one step. When I pulled 3:73's out and went 4:56 in my '70, it was nice with the 33's. I thought about 4:88, and now that it has 35's , I wish that it had 4:88 gears. It has a big block.
With the 5.3, I would give it a chance to wind up. And then look into a tune.
