unfortunately I have to be at a wedding at 5pm, have to drive paperwork for my buddys dad to nh :angry1: for his workmans comp claim from his work (works for the water dept in my city) and cut some womans grass that he usually does (he had 2 hernias removed so is out of comission for a while)

there's only two good things about this. one, the lady whose grass I have to cut pays $50, and two, that buddy in nh has agreed to come down Sunday, which means I'll be able to get a solid 10 hrs in, with the both of us working on it, i don't think we'll have a problem getting this bitch done :wink1:

Good luck to you! Can't wait to see it running/driving.

Be cautious at the wedding, they have a way of making the next day not so fun!!

Well we're back to the point where we need to get it running right.

Here's where we started today, after r&r the fuel pump, and re-sealing the couple of plugs that were leaking, and re wiring the fan when we found out it was blowing the wrong way :doah:

The strangeness begins here. In order for the motor to run, we had all the plug wires shifted counter clockwise, and it seem to run pretty decent. Then we hooked up the timing light, only to find out we were way off, and had to spin the dizzy itself counter clock wise. It seemed like it had to go further, but we were getting caught on the #8 wire.

So, made a phone call, ended up marking where dizzy was, pulling it out, and then putting it back in so rotor it was facing #1, and we rotated the wires back around to where the Haynes manual says it's supposed to be. With it that way, it started up a lot easier, and seem to run good.

We went ahead and hook the timing light back up, set it to 8*, and it flashed when it lined up with 0* on the timing tab.

With it like that, it ran pretty good, but it was fumey/smokey out of both ends, and definite smells rich. We also noticed that the choke seems to be out of adjustment, and the secondaries stick once in a while. Another thing, when you really get on it, guessing maybe 4500 rpms.....when it decelerates, the exhaust makes a popping noise..

Hopefully that mumble jumble sounds like progress to someone

wait so is your timing at 0* or 8*?

the popping on deceleration is normal coming off of high rpm. My 305 does it above 3000rpms. Its basically overlap on your cam and high flow exhaust will give you that popping.

You have a qbog crap i mean carb right? I'm not too furmilure with the tuning of them. But search around there's lots of info on tuning them here.

yeah, quadrajet.

As far as the timing goes. we set the timing light to 8* then turned the dizzy until it lined up with 0 on the tab when it flashed .

BTW, make sure you doulbe triple everything you do. Not only were my front brake lines extremely loose, the tranny was so low on fluid, that it wouldn't even do anything besides hold it in park :crazy::crazy::crazy: 4 quarts later, the bitch rolled under its own power!!! Not far, as I was running out of time, but it did none the less!!!

Well...as soon as my step dad get's home, I'll be heading to napa to pick up a kit for the q jet, so I can spend the afternoon screaming profanities in my driveway :haha::haha:

I get to that point too. Every now and then I go off in the driveway. It scares the horses out back. I also notice that the neighbors have their windows and doors shut for the next few days!!:haha:

Son of a!!! No one had the damn kit, had to order it at the local speed shop, be here Tuesday morning...

Sounds like another pimple on the ass of progress. Sorry to hear that. Gives some time for mental relaxation!!

To start, paint/body work is not a big thing to me...I just want it to be one color....and look 'decent'. I'm stuck between a semi gloss or flat black, and gloss white...and do I rattle can it, or spray it with a gun? What say you?

What about doing Al's Liner or something along those lines in the color you want? Would be more durable and I believe you spray it with a gun. Should be pretty easy to make look decent.

spray it with a gun. It will come out far more even than a rattle can could ever hope for.

I just bought Eastwood's Concourse spray gun on sale for $119. The quality of the gun is unbelievable it would almost be a shame to run paint through it.

actually drove my truck today (and ran it out of gas in front of someone's house about 5 houses down) doh!!!! it's gettin there!!!!
