Project 82 TCBF -10.13.9 - progress!!!

One way I've seen it done that I thought was weird at first, but realized it worked well. Put one half in first. Put the inner sleeve in that half, then tap the other half in keep in the eye supported so the inner sleeve doesn't drive out the other side. Keeps you from in advertantly dinging up the inner sleeve since you don't have to hammer it at all.

I've tried it that way a few times and have found it difficult to keep the sleeve from sliding out. To each his own I guess. All that matters is that its all in there in the end and not damaged.

I hate that Bob Barker!

Hey BigBen,

Any news on the rubber? C'mon, we need to see your rig on new MUDDERS! I'm excited for ya bro!

No, not yet...still waiting for those pesky tax returns to come in....

It`s not final, but there may be a change of plans...for the better of course;)

No, not here, not at all

The change in plans wasn`t as drastic as most of you would`ve thought...I just decided I was going to lock or put a LS in the front axle, for when I end up taking the wrong "lines":D

there seems to always be a change of plans :)

Hopefully with in the next couple weeks, I can have my new tires, so I want to get these wheels done...

Can 320 sandpaper, as ryoken suggested to know down/smooth the stripes, be had at Advanced Auto Parts?

You could try that or I would go to home depot. They should have it
cool, I`m going to try Advance, then if they don`t have it, try the little mom and pop automotive/hardware store thats down the street, and then if they don`t have it, i`ll have to head over to the dumpo:crazy:

Just incase anyone needs a little reminder, the sole purpouse of this build, is to give me a better DD/trail rig. I don`t need 35`s or bigger, and 1 tons to make that happen. Although it would help somewhat, it`s not needed. Thus my decision to stay 6 lug, 33s, and 1/2 ton. If your train of belief is bigger is better, and you`re going to look like a mall crawler, then please don`t use it against me.(not directed towards anyone, just in general)

Take into consideration the amount of wheeling I do, less than 6 times a year. Sure my truck would look cool with 35`s on it, and sure it may perform better than what I want to run, so what! Getting stucks half the fun, is it not?

Just a friendly reminder:D

Here`s how the truck is set up now:90:k5:/4 inch lift, springs up front, blocks out back/33x14.5r15 MT Baja Belteds/np241/350 tbi (with JEGS/Hypertech/K&N induction kit)/ 700r4/ 10 bolts with 3.73s/JASPER POSI in rear

Here`s how it will be when it`s done:90:k5:/4 inch lift, springs in front, DIY Shackle flip with HD 4.5" shackles, greasable bolts, zero rates in rear/33x12.5r15 Interco Trxxus Muds on black steelies/np241/rebuilt or crate 350/ super built 700r4 with big cooler and permacool filter and temp gauge/ 10 bolts with 3.73s/JASPER POSI in rear, Lock Right or LS up front/STC tonneau cover soft top for spring, summer, and fall/23" Lokar Nostalgia/headlight relay mod/custom locking console/ and possibly more....

Like I said before, this is my ultimate DD/trail rig, not yours. Carry on.

Alright guys, this is the last week before I head up to NH to do some wrenching. So, I wanted to get a small head start, by intalling the bushings/sleeves, in the DIY shackle flip, so, I just threw the bushings in the freezer to shrink them a little...:D Installation will most likely take place wednesday, or friday night....Stay tuned;)

Nice build, and nice job holdin on to your sanity! My own truck is similar to your's (87 longbox, tci 700r4, np208, mild 350, 33" MTR's). I know what you mean too. I drive my truck 45 miles each way to work all winter long, just to go up to Silver Lake one or 2 times each summer and the occasional trail ride and mudhole in between, I don't need the beefiest axles, or the most giagantic tires, it works well for what I use it for. I'm probably gonna totally copy your suspension though, lol.

Did I offend anyone? If so, I`m sorry, as that last post wasn`t meant to do that...

Just weird not to have anyone, asside from Jrgunn, reply to a post, especially one with that content....I feel as though I`ve driven everyone away, because the build plans have went a different way than the original ones that attracted them here...anyone care to prove me wrong, maybe a little reassurance?

Thanks, Jrgunn, glad to see someones still taggin along.

As for the suspension, yea, go ahead. I`m pretty confident that the new supension set up, the rear at least, will perform great, and would probably be the same for you as well. However, I do have one recommendation though, when your in the market for the flip, do yourself a favor ,and give Kert over at DIY4X a call :deal: :deal:.....

Yep, thats right. The count down has officialy begun. For those of you that are lost, read the end of my first post. Since my work was feeling generous, they approved my time off request for February 18-24, which also happens to be my winter vacation from school, I know have a completely free week.

So, Friday when I get home from school, I`ll change the oil, and load up the truck with my shackle flip, spare 31s, tranny stuff, etc, then Saturday, after work, I`m off to my buddys house in NH for a week, where there is a perdy 2 car garage that I have been helping clean for a while (they moved in last August, and still haven`t finished unpacking). Monday night, and possibly Wednesday night, I will go to NH after school to help finish cleaning....

I`M SO STOKED!!!!

i've been following along, just don't post much 'cause i'm a Gen 1 guy & i hate gen 2 guys :p: :haha: . JK. it's cool that you're building your vision and not following along with the trend. gotta give you props man. keep up the updates.

Dude, people have to realize that it's your truck, not their's. If keeping 10 bolts and a 1/2 ton drive train is your goal, it's YOURS. Bigger for some is not always better. Different levels of wheelin' deserve different levels of attention. 6 times a year is not that much and to go hog wild is not a wise decision. Had you said that wheelin' was a monthly or even a weekly event in your life I would recommend going bigger. You're fine with your vision and I encourage you to stay the course. Some people need to learn: Too bad, too sad, get over it!

You're one of the finest young men I have come to know. You have a head on your shoulders and you have vision. You listen to advice and weigh out decisions. Have the courage to continue and you'll have an easier way at building your truck and in life generally speaking.

Have a great time wrenching. Remember, lots of pics, or I'll "worthless" your thread!
