Project Chump (88 K5) - ORD front 4 link install

Good work! I always wanted to set one of those up that still worked with the original Park brake pedal.

Quick update... I was able to drive around a bit last night and am happy to report that it works great. I won't be bringing this rig to an emergency stop from 70mph with just the ebrake. But if I was ever to blow a hydro brake line, I feel comfortable that I could safely get it stopped without crashing into someone in front of me. Once I'm on a decent hill, I'll report how it holds as a parking brake.

Now I need to wire up the wiper motor, get the aftermarket heater hooked up, and I'll be ready to get an inspection and get out on the main roads. Fingers crossed!

OK, it's been a long time since I have made an update. To sum things up, I made the mistake of taking on another project that I would knock out real quick. This mistake happened after I sold my 2013 Toyota Tundra. I loved the truck, but to be honest, I didn't drive it much. It was sitting in the shop, and costing me a lot of money each month to not be driven. Like a genius, I thought... "sell the Tundra, and just buy some POS beater truck". So that's what I did. After the truck was sold, I started looking around for what kind of beater truck I wanted. This is when I made the mistake. I said to myself, why buy an old Ford F250 or something along those lines, when I can buy an old C10. I have always liked them, and its way cooler to drive an old beater, than a newer one.

The day I brought it home. Its a long bed 1967 C10 with an I6 and T350.

I never really like the 4x4 look on a 2WD, so I figured I would put bags on it... real quick, just because it would be funny. I won't drag on with the long story, but that "fun, quick" project turned into a "might as well as" slippery slope, which is just now getting road worthy. All the while, the Blazer and other projects haven't gotten any attention.

I don't like the long bed, might as well chop it down real quick and make it a short bed. Off comes the cab:

Frame is marked for cutting:

Braced and cut:

Support/Patch over where I cut and welded:

Cab is back on. One of the braces runs at an angle, which makes things look crooked/bent/not right. Drove me nuts when looking at it:

Testing out the air bags:

Cutting down the long bed to a short bed:

Cutting down the long bed sounded like a great idea, but as I cut it apart, it was more rusted than initially looked. So, I scrapped it and bought the bed parts to piece a new one together:

Testing out the new wheels. The TV show came out after buying the wheels which made me nervous.

Cut the fender to not cut down a tire when air'd out:

By cutting the fenders, I lost my hood hinges. Time for PB Fab to help out with some parts:

Patched some rust in the parts that I ended up keeping:

Body work done.. in primer ( l loved the color)

Lost a few days after an Xmas party with the wife:

Quick single stage Satin Black paint. She's only some wiring, exhaust, and alignment from being on the road.

Once its on the road, i'm considering "stage one" complete. I have an old SBC, T56, and Megasquirt that I'll put on it down the road. But this project has drug along enough. Time to get the Blazer on the road!!

So here I am. After 9 months of working on the C10, I'm back on the K5. I hope to be posting pics on a weekly or so basis now that I'm back on it. I'm pulling the fender off for a trim job, putting on a FAST LSXrt intake, fixing the doors. Thats my start.

Some new HP:

Fenders coming off:

Original 1975 doors getting a little rust work:

C10 is bitchin.

and nice to see the K5 getting some attention

Deuling - If I can get K5 ready, I'm going to try and get up to MI for a dune event

I'm back on the K5, and making some decent progress. For those who care, I'll have a larger update when I have time to put something together.

I have modified the original fenders and stretched the back a bit. I basically copied why Rykonen (spelling?) did, without keeping the outward flare that the original fender has. I took the Kings off the front and cycled the suspension, looking for clearance isues for when I purchase different tires. My current 36x13.5 IROCs don't have any real issues, but I want to go larger. The only place that I'm close to hitting is where the inner fender attaches to the body seam.

My question relates to the picture below... how important is it to keep that body seam? I'm thinking about trimming the seam back like 3/4" and re-welding the nut? I'm just curious as I'm guessing these seams hold a little structural integrity? I have a full cage that goes down the A pillar... This firewall clearance is my only issue with going with a 38" or 40" tire.

The picture was taken with the passenger side sitting on the fully compressed bump stop, steering wheel cut to make a sharp right turn, and the drivers side hanging on the limit straps

Any chance you can go over what needed to be done with the hood/ cowl to make those hinges work? I would really like to get rid of my stock hinges on the '68.
