Project MULE - Expedition build on a 1991 1500 4x4 Suburban

The "spare" front 10bolt and last axle to be tackled is done. Here is the official tally of what I am keeping

14 bolt full floater with open diff 4.56 gears (gears are rusty, axle needs a rebuild)
10 bolt front with open diff and 4.56 gears.
1 spare Warn Premium hub (other side was shot by loose bearing nuts)
1 spare set of "AVM" brand full turn hubs.
2 full set of spare front shafts (28 spline)

Stuff hitting the market to get rid of
12 Bolt with limited slip diff and 4.56 gears
2 sets of 6 lug hubs
2 sets of 1/2 ton spindles
All the chrome
4" leaf springs

All in all a good deal

Thanks goes out to NUTT7 for having a set of 3/4ton backing plates. All i need now is new 3/4ton hubs, rotors and JB7 code calipers.

Axle tear down begins

Yep, I have my work cut out!:doah:

It still turns and everything. I wont even bet any money the gears are shot which doesnt matter anyways. Even if the 4.56s we still good I would still have to by a "thick" gears for the ARB I am putting in it.

damn thats urgly

Its like carmalized gear oil, its weird. It scrapes right off leaving a pretty clean surface so it looks a lot worse then it really is... so far...

:eek1:

^ I actually made this face

Looks like someone sh#t coffee grounds into your differential...

The 14 bolt is all stripped down now. that sludge of coffee $h$t is actually cleaning off nicely.

I have actually recouped almost all the cash i spent on this axle project. I went in spending 400 and have made back $300. SO for $100 I have spare hubs, spindles, spindle nuts, shafts, a full 10 bolt with 4.56 gears and one 14 bolt SRW.

Its was a good day!:woot::woot::woot:

It would appear the axle gods have smiled upon me and have shown me the way to another 14bolt for $150 obo.

I just got back from a quick look see on it. Here are the facts.

SRW
Really super clean
Shock mount and perches are in proper spots for my 91.
It has the smaller drums
Only thing is the shock mounts are hanging down more on this axle.

Its from a 73 2wd, 4spd manual with 454

I am going back tomorrow and we are going to crack open the diff and see what it has for gears and measure WMS to WMS.

Taking all bets on what gears it may have. Even if it's the wrong gears as long as its the same track I may get it anyways due to how clean it is and then I have spare shafts ( like I would ever brake them anyways) .

Well it can be an after thought anyways. The black bottom is actually going to be smooth rolled bed liner.

So either way the main color will go first then I will go from there but what do you think about the blue?

oh hell yeah!

# 3 fan to boot?...I knew I liked you :thumb:
