Project MULE - Expedition build on a 1991 1500 4x4 Suburban

We just took it out for a quick run to the lake for lunch and it didn't bother me at all.

A quick shot from the drivers view of the Hi-Lift.

Not bad, The hi-lift doesnt stick up much at all. I saw our vintage suburban today with about a 6" and 35s with a hi-lift mounted on the hood just infront of cowl.

Rack painted, lights mounted and suspended form our custom roofrack lift that resembles some sort of dark ages torture contraption.

Now the moment of truth to see if my calculations were correct to clear the shop door.

I actually measured this. a 1/4" to spare with tires still fully inflated!

i gotta say, yours has quickly become one of my favorite suburbans! i love the simplicity, the functionality, everything has a purpose. exactly what an expedition rig needs. well done man!

Looks cool!

Where are you getting the 1x6 LED fixtures? Would one of those fit in the factory gril openings, inboard of the stock lights?

I want to add LED to the front of my rig, without changing the stock appearance.

Would love to have some low current draw lights on the front and back for camping purposes.

Can you post some pictures of how you mounted the roof rack?

P.S. please build me one of those bumpers and roof racks! Amazing job! :saweet::bow:

Check a few pages back in the thread and you will find the entire roof rack (with mounts) build along with the bumpers.

The front bumper I plan to sell as a DIY but due to lack of enthusiasm for the rear I don't think it will see production. I am going to make a couple of revisions and sell off this prototype.

Awesome! I am sure it is still early in your planning process, but what kind of price point are you trying to hit with your diy kit? Also, how diy? You supplying just the plans? Or precut metal pieces?

DIY means you get all the parts pre-cut in a box. you need a welder, a grinder and at least a square. a couple extra hands dont hurt either.

that is the perfect rig to me...it's what I've envisioned mine being one day...
