Made some progress this weekend...


but not on my junk.

My friend bought an '85 Toyota parts truck for $500 sight unseen. We stripped it on Saturday, made a few calls to the PO and found:

-a 22R that was rebuilt 5,000 miles ago
-Toyota 5 speed that was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago
-brand new centerforce clutch
-t-case with aftermarket gears (don't know the ratio as of yet)
-aftermarket d-shafts
-brand new taillights sitting in the bed
-an IFS box (Toyota crossover box) sitting in the bed
-third members with lockers and 5.29's on both ends
-aluminum wheels and 35" tires with better than 50% of the tread left

My buddy's gonna make a good deal of money after keeping all the parts that he originally wanted, and I gave him about 1k pounds in junk metal I had around. He now officially owes me a few favors.

As for my stuff, here are a couple of decent pics of the crossmembers. Like I said, no progress on my stuff this weekend so yeah...

Before anyone asks, NO, the clothesline pole in front of the crank pulley is NOT permanent. It got tacked in there for stability and I haven't replaced it yet.

Oh yeah, one last note...I had my friend help me out and it turns out headroom isn't going to be all that much of a problem. With the chassis sitting like it is now (6"+ high in the rear and 1-2" high in the front) the top of my head is at exactly 6' off the ground. I've got about 6'8" or so of garage door clearance and even more if I take the slope of our driveway into account. Sooo...the seat's gonna go up about 4", that'll allow for 2" of headroom and 2" for the tube overhead. I'm gonna put a winch on my rear suspension so I can suck it down when I want...that oughta take care of my issues.

The rear suspension is gonna be a little bit out there, but I'll save that surprise for when I actually get to it.

Your going to want more then 2" of headroom, believe me. Atleast 4-5".

You're ruining all my fun.

I need a pair of factory shackle hangers for the rear so I can put it back at the height I want. Then I can really tell. I'm hoping for 5" of head room while raising the seat 4-5".

We ended up working around the mid sump pan and the axle will clear it if I relocate the filter so no need for a rear sump in the current configuration.

Overall a really ****ty weekend. Set up on Friday night, bent my main hoop and one pillar on Saturday. Blew the belt on my air compressor on Sunday. Jimmy rigged a york to my buddy's 'Yota and continued bending. Blew up the york in 20 minutes flat. Got a new belt this morning and did sliders for my friend.

I ended up at 80.5" with the chassis sitting level and 4-5" of headroom with the seat 4" off the frame...garage door is 81". I'm happy so far...should have gotten WAY further on it though.

Don't forget to leave room for the 180* headers! You know you want them.

Looking good, only thing I dont like is how the a-pillar comes into the b-pillar before the bend. You are going to get hung up ALOT the way you have it. I have mine in the middle of the bend and still hit it all the time.

Hmmm...never factored that in. Wanted a flat roof and nothing hanging down beside my head.

If it snags a lot I'll work somethin out.

So Kert, if you want an arm and a leg for normal headers, how much would you charge for the 180's?
