Project OVERKILL - Ppump 24v Fummins swap started

Yes, it is a big cooler. I got it new and for free........so I'm using it. and I fully intend to abuse the truck with lots of horsepower. so let 'er buck.

I can guarrontee the fluid stays cool though. I haven't decided if I'm going to run a short loop bypass with the oem heat exchanger for winter operation though. maybe. I'll see how the summer goes 1st I guess.

seems like I didn't update this like I should.....so I will. its been a turn key oil burner since end of jan/feb-ish.

a field tech rolled his service truck (2006 F450 4wd) last fall/winter sometime, I forget the date. anyways. our company is self insured. so the wreck sat in the back of the yard for ages untouched. I start poking around about it. so they want to part it out. So coupe months ago, I get the call to pull the drivetrain and any other good parts still on it. so left is the service body, cab, frame and diffs basically. rolling shell. So they don't know what to do with the left overs..........I pipe up. I'll take it. :D So I set the buraucratic wheels in motion. fast forward to Fri 14th Aug. I seal the deal for it. picked up the wreck for $1500. basically for the diffs rims tires and suspension. the cab and service body is scrap weight. the interior seats and center console. is pretty good too still. might sell them.

Oh and after ALL the ****ing around with the 47rh to get it in and get it to work. I'm swapping back to a NV4500 :doah: I just hate the way the auto drives. I got a nv4500 from a buddy out of his '98 3500 dodge 2wd.

NOw the F450 front diff tech! anyone have any?????? :D

I've heard it called a super60. but lets get real theres nothing dana 60 about it. I've owned a couple trucks with D80 rears and this center front looks just like my 80 rear section. so I dunno. the knuckles look very big too. just remember for reference the rims on it are 19.5" and the brakes are that much bigger.

:ears: anyone? super duty diff tech? I know the rear is a D110 though for sure, and 4.30 ratios.

So what are F450 axles? Are they sterlings or danas? look beefy for sure are they factory 19.5's? And finally are you going back to your original 6" lift plans now?

This will deffinatly be a killer rig. Good job.

They are both Dana for sure. rear D110S front.......has a Dana tag but I don't know the model. thats sort of what I'm asking about.

not sure about 6" of lift. but when these diffs go in. its with airbags, radius arm front and links in the back, just not sure if I'll go with 5link or radius arm rear yet. probably not 4 link in the back this truck just doesn't need 4 link configuration.

rims are OEM 19.5" steelies. on a 10 bolt pattern. not the class8 large pattern 10 on 285mm, its a smaller 10 bolt. I'm not sure of its actual measurement.

this is how my truck currently rolls. never did put the bimper back on. it'll eventually get a custom bumper. nice form fitted, not an ugly mostrosity.

9. The good news is that the Super 60 uses 1 1/2-inch, 35-spline inner and outer axleshafts. Plus, if you remove the 10-lug unit bearing, you can bolt on the 8-on-170mm unit bearings from '05-and-newer F-350s. Doing so narrows the axle nearly 10 inches and allows you to use 20-inch Super Duty wheels.

If you want to use a Visteon/sterling axle in the back, you can change this to the newer 1ton frod bolt pattern.

Another neat o fact:

6. A Ford engineer told us that the 10-inch-diameter Super 60 ring-and-pinion gears should bolt in to older Ford high-pinion Dana 60 axles. We proved that theory by placing a Super 60 ring gear and carrier in a Dynatrac Pro 60 housing. Unfortunately, the 10-inch ring gear wouldn't fit into Dynatrac's high-clearance Pro Rock 60 housing.

Do, if anyone is doinga SAS on a later model truck using a Ford Super Duty 60, this larger R&P will fit in it.

And:

3. Conventional Dana 60 axles use 9 3/4-inch-diameter ring gears. The Super 60 uses a larger 10-inch-diameter ring gear for more tooth contact and improved strength. The Super 60 carrier is also new and features net-formed spider gears, but it is dimensionally identical to traditional Dana 60 pieces. That means the Super 60 will accept all aftermarket Dana 60 lockers and limited slips.

nice info that firms up some tech. but it really looks like a bigger center when you actually sling your head under there.

I'm not down sizing anything on mine. D110 in the back Super60 up front let 'er buck. getting bigger brakes all around don't make sense to try and downsize. I'll keep the 22" rims that I've got. just have to get new lug adapters and larger tires.

thanks for that info

the new backbone. I think it was a good choice in putting the drivetrain and body on this, rather than try and scab in the diffs under my inferior chev frame. the F450 frame is so much bigger. and double wall in lots of places.

Cool... We have an E450 diesel van with a box that we use as our mobile shop and I was blown away at how beefy everything was the first time I crawled under it. I think you're making the right decision going this route. Obviously a lot more hours but all said and done I think it'll be the ultimate tow rig. :waytogo:

Ya, I think so too. goal was ultimate. I'm going to sled pull with it too, that looks like fun. Also, the 19.5s are not staying on. I'm going back to 22.5" alcoas. NOT shaved this time. and running 255/70r22.5s in a traction tire for all 6.

heres a couple more angles. and theres 2 tanks in there for aprox 210L of fuel...(55 gallons)

No question that the frame is beef, but holy jeebus you're going to mount the chev body on that frame.:eek1: Thats going to be some long hours of fab work there....
