Project Overtime: 1978 K5

To be honest, it looks the same as the first pics except its about 4 inches lower cause I took the hokey body lift out.

Bump. Been devoting a little time to this. Bought a motor and been working on that making sure it is good to go, but I cannot get the one exhaust manifold off. If it comes down to it, I can grab a set of heads from a guy at work for cheap. Its been in storage since the winter, which is a good thing as its been a cold, snowy winter up here.

I am planning on picking up a parts K5 in the next week or so. 465, 208, hydro clutch I believe, and all the little things that I should need to get this going by the 4th of July hopefully.

I guess two years is enough for an update?

Basically been driving the truck as is- haven't done any body work, interior work, etc. It runs decent. I wanna do a few things to it to get it a little more streetable, and hopefully be able to put some more miles on it.

Plans right now are put some cats on it (you smell like exhaust three minutes after getting in it, the wife isn't a fan), put my old K5 tailgate on it so it has a rear window, and eventually do an interior. Probably put new topper seals in it so its all nice and sealed up. I need to take the Lockright out of the back (sorry @fourwheelerjeff life has been in the way) because with the four speed it is a little hard to handle.

Other than that, its a cool truck. I like driving it. Just need to do a fewwww more little things to get it to where I want it to be.

Lockrights are a pain in the but with a manual so much popping and banging and bucking.

I had the Powertrax NoSlip lunchbox in my ‘96 Ranger. It’s their nicer mannered locker. Even with the 5 speed manual it was easy to deal with on 33” Swampers.
