Project "RESPAWN" - 1972 K5 Blazer

Cool stuff here!
So here is my 241 t-case cross member, I believe it is from the 91 Suburban that the motor/trans and t-case came out of. I would like to raise it to frame level without the current spacer, should I do that with an original 205 cross member instead? Not sure what height would be compared to my current setup?

The 205 x member is flat across the bottom after a small drop at each rail. You would have that 241 hanging exposed

I thought about that and figured I could add in another cross member and make a skid plate.

Might want to check the driveshaft angles. Moving the cross-member up that much might have an effect on your rear shaft angles. I see the SYE and CV rear shaft so you got the right stuff, but the shaft angle and the pinion angle need to match for the CV to be happy when running.

The spacers look to be almost 1" tall. That will have a significant change on the angles for sure.

I am looking at doing the suspension at the same time so am trying to look at everything at the same time.

Are you keeping the 241? Maybe a clocking ring would be good, aside from those drive shaft angles

I know some of you are running a 241 with the 205 cross member, thoughts? Also, is a t-case cross member from a first gen 4x4 truck the same as a 4x4 k5?

Convenient start for that 241/205 case youll want later...
I have a TH350 version 205 sitting on the garage floor as well...

Kinda off topic, but if you do end up drastically changing the t-case or cross member I'd be willing to take that 241 skid plate off your hands.

Remind me latter if you see me blow up my current setup.

Might as well answer my own question... looks like the 205 cross member was meant to use the tall adapter while the 241 cross member was meant to use the short adapter.

nice. Already has SYE on it.

The transfer case I had in for years was a 208 and I "think" it used the original 205 crossmember. I reused it again for my 241 and everything seems just fine. The 208 had 1" spacers on it like yours, but I removed them when I went to the 241. Everything seems to be working well, but I think the 6.0 sits up higher than the SBC did, so I'm not sure if that really helps you.

Just had a chance to look over the t-case/crossmember etc.. I now know why the PO spaced the crossmember down an inch, it looks like the top of the t-case is about 1/2" from touching the bottom of the body. The motor appears to be moved forward as well.
Has anyone else ran into this problem? and no, don't really want to add a 1" body lift.

We found the same thing during mock-up in my son's '72 K10.
We trimmed the tabs down some on top of the t-case, (the ones used to separate halves ) then cut the floor to make a taller tunnel. His has lots of rust repair to get done, so more cutting wasn't a problem.

I have a TH350 on my garage floor and the crossmember with barely used mounts that was original to the jimmy.
What tranny t-case combo did you end up going with?
