Project Snow Bear K20!

Going to look at a 74 blazer tomorrow if the weather is decent. I know the truck but he supposedly sold it and apparently the deal fell through. I hope I don't buy it and get side tracked but who am I kidding. I wouldn't go look at it unless I was gonna buy it....lol

Well plans fell through to go look at trucks so I decided to fight the weather and get the suspension out of the truck. Couple hours with the torch and impact resulted in the rear suspension gone and working on the front. Got a guy coming to pick it up and help me finish getting it out tomorrow morning. I realized I need to buy some large Jack stands. Cribbing it up with blocks didn't hold. Oh well it didn't hurt anything but now I have to lift it back up to my ride height. What a pain though. Time to fire up my handy picker...dozers are just handy to have around.

I've got harbor freight 6 ton stands and Matco 6 ton stands and they are identical. I have 4 of each plus a pair of little ones I got free with a jack. Enough stands to put two trucks up in the air at once. Can't have too many!

I had a dozen of those 6ton jacks but people borrow and don't return them.
Thankfully I have 4 left, plus 4 3ton and 4 2ton.
Th 6ton are the best for our trucks except in some situations I wished I had the 12ton just for the extra height

Not to be a dick but I picture you driving a truck like this up there in Montana. (probably without the stacks though) Doing all kinds of cool mtn man shit! https://www.ksl.com/classifieds/listing/50356750 It's on a Chevy chassis at least.

Montana is one of those places that will kill you if you let it. Unpredictable weather, some areas don't get plowed at all and little cell phone signal. You can get in trouble here in a hurry. I have three trucks, all are ready to go anywhere anytime.

Well today was a good day, despite the weather. Had a guy come to pickup the lift kit and axles from the k20. We got it finished up just before the snow started back up. Only thing left now is to get the front clip off the old girl and wait for the weather to change it's mind. Just not much to do in the snow. I miss my huge shop at my old place but oh well, we can't have everything. Where would you put it?

Still really crap weather here so I've decided to go to the fab shop. My buddy and I have some plans drawn out now for the brackets and things that I need to make this project roll. Found a large piece of 3/8 plate that will become my new skid plate cross member. It will completely cover the bottom of the frame rails. Bolting in on the outside of the rails on both sides. It will protrude slightly on each side giving me the room to weld the lower link mounts to on the front of the skid plate. I'll notch the side rails where needed. To start with I'll just make it a big rectangle. Later after everything is mocked up I will give is some angles and clearances for drive shafts and what not.

Sometimes I hate finding good deals. It happens when I least expect it and sometimes they just fall into my lap. So here's the story:

Went out to look at the two trucks above this morning. Freezing cold but at least it was sunny. Talked trucks with the guy for a while and we went into his shop to warm up a little. There he's got a really nice Chevelle he has been working on. Right next to it is an essentially new 454 sitting on an engine stand. He goes on to tell me that he had it built for a crew cab square body that he was working on before the Chevelle. Towing/RV cam....new everything but he really wanted to put an LS engine in his Chevelle but was having trouble finding one. I remarked that I had one at the house for my project truck and he offered up the big block straight across in trade. I told him I would think on it and let him know but I'm certainly leaning towards doing it. A big block would really provide the torque for my Snow Bear that I am looking for. Especially in front of the 5 speed....

Just to give some perspective I had the opportunity a couple days ago to drive a k-20 with a 5.3 swap and I gotta say It was "OK". It had tons of top end and really screamed on the interstate. However, the owner even agreed he didn't tow anything with it. He tried a few times but wasn't able to maintain speed on most of the hills around here. That's not what I wanted to hear.
