Does your center pin tighten to the spring plate with that nut? Never seen that before...

Shave those u bolts down and hit that bump right on the spring pad imo.

Hmmm I may steal that shock mount idea except with the DeulingFab shock mounts.... What kinda bumps are those?

Did you cycle the suspension to see if the shock body is going to get into the steering shaft on the driver's side?
i will when the bump stops and rear shocks are done although im very confident it wont. the shock body is about 2 inches out from the steering shaft it just looks extremely close because of the angle of the pic.

yes it does. its the way ruffstuff sets up there u-bolt plates although when i got to change the ubolt im going to drill out the center of the plate so the nut can sit down in the plate.
i might just end up shaving the bolts like you said. gonna wait and see when i get the bumps bolted on.
Nice work on the shock setup. Keep up the good work.
thanks. these are the nicest shocks any of my vehicles have seen haha
Whoa what happened to that U bolt and brake hose?
u-bolt got bent when it made contact with my old cheesy engine crossmember i made a few years back. im not sure what happened with the brake line. it got pinched somewhere but ill be securing it a little better to hopefully prevent that.
They look like ruffstuff plates, mine are the same way.
yup there from ruffstuff

not sure on the brand of the actual bumps but i ordered them through ruffstuff.

Interesting. I'm thinking of something along those lines or the stock 99-07 tahoe ones .

Hmm, I ran those in the back until I bent the plates from over torquing them... I don't recall mine sticking up like that, but I probably ground the nut down to fit in the hole or something.

So how'd the event go?
event went well but before i get to that ill update you guys on how my shock setup turned out.
my bump stops came in so i shaved the u-bolts and centering pins and drilled out the center of the u-bolt plate to let the nut sit down in the plate.
finished product.

then i started on the rear shocks. i wanted to keep them straight up and down on the travel of the axle so they are the most effective. therefor meaning they would most likely be coming up through the floor. to do this shock hoops would be required. i finally received a ram for my swag kit so first step was to set up the hydraulics for the bender.
i used a little inspiration from @jt512 (josh) for mounting my bender and making it mobile by building a mount for an engine stand.

so with that finished i tested it out by building my hoops.

the reason for the piece inside the hoop was to be able to offset the shock mount tab being that i had to tuck the hoops in behind the rear seat.
floor cut to weld in the hoops.

tacked in

the tabs i used from ruffstuff too mount the shocks to the u-bolt plates.

finished welded and painted hoops

floor welded back in.

once finishing both sides i built the cross bar between the hoops. i ran it up high so that it can also be used as the harness bar for the rear bench seat. this will be tied in to the interior cage this winter.

then it was time for rear bump stops.
again i made use of the original frame mounts . but because of the lift i had to build a bump pad on the axle so the bump stop would limit it before the shocks bottomed out.
pre welded pads.

everything inplace and welded

i finished this the weekend before the december NJ toughest truck challenge.
in prep for the event i also finally got an optima for it and wired in a kill switch.

tucked the kill switch in the grill

ok so the event

as usual Cord (my fellow wheeler with the bronco he rolled last event) and i got prepped. he would be running what a lot of you know as the rental bronco. my self in the blazer. so on to the pics

copy to a video of the ending of one of my runs.
so final outcome? i got second place in a tight knit battle with a linked tj on king coil overs who got me by 6 seconds.

not a big margin at this event. in the video above i got hung up on the concrete block towards the end. that was actually my second place run. if i didnt catch that block i would have had a very good shot at first.
on my third run though she gave in.
on the little kicker on the downside of the hill i heard something and i lost all gears. would just free rev. well the extension between the sm465 and the np205 split in half and the tcase broke off the back side.

im thinking it happened due to just lack of support as the bar running to the bell housing is gone. ill be building a new transmission crossmember and adding in a tcase support this winter also. but even with the break still a great event and had a blast. the shocks made an absolute world of difference in the performance of the truck. everything felt much much smoother.
till next time.

now some videos of the bomber class that cord ran. you will see that they lived up to the class name.
this first video is of cord and what happens when you dont pull your airbag fuse.
you can hear it go off in the second whoop.
next video of my buddy brandon in his $300 bronco.
next up another friend mike in is rough cherokee that took a massive beating.
sad part is everyone one of these piles drove on the trailer on there own power. just a couple of flat tires. very fun to watch.

Shock hoops look good. Glad to hear some mustache leaf springs gave some coilovers a good run for their money:waytogo:

so things are underway in the motor department:burnout:.
Pulled the 5.3 from the donor last weekend. was a royal pita with the bent frame. the cab was blocking all the bellhousing bolts. but she finally came free with the harness and computer.

out she came. yes i was lazy and left the converter bolted to the flexplate.

had some of my turbo parts begin to show up.

2.5 vband flanges and clamps for the up pipes and a t4 turbo flange. the 3in vband flange and clamp showed up today for the turbo outlet.

also ordered some intake and exhaust gaskets, GM performance MLS style headgaskets for an ls2, and arp headbolts for the 5.3. ive been spending alot of time lurking around the forums of LS1tech.

the turbo will be showing up sometime next week. been working some serious overtime the last few weeks to be able to afford this build. so i order different parts every paycheck. also have a new engine crossmember from TNA on the way to clear the LS style oil pan.
so now i have a few questions.
im sticking with the Manual. i have a 32spline sm465 with a hydraulic clutch in the black blazer i got the tbi motor from mated to an np208. in my truck currently is a 10 spline sm465 with the z bar clutch linkage and a beyond busted extension housing mated to an np205. i would like to swap over to the 32 spline trans but do i
a. swap both trans and tcase? do an sye to the np208? how hard are those sye kits to installl? will that affect my driveshaft lengths?
or
b. swap just the trans. either swap the input on my 205 to a 32 spline or buy another 205 with a 32 spline. what style input shaft setup would i need? what style extension housing?

keep in mind i may be building a doubler in the future but thats not for a little while down the road.

as far as clutch setup is concerned ill be running an ls2 flywheel with a ls2 pilot bushing. the disc, pressure plate, and throwout bearing will be stock style for a sm465 but with a heavier pressure load for turboed 5.3.
