Looks good alt and compressor have good contact. I like it. the trans cooler lines gonna need a little clearance from belt.

The AC is fully plumbed. I am waiting to charge it because the core support is still off. I need to change the steering box input seal. I can do it in the truck, I hope.

While the front end is off of the truck, I pulled the leaking steering gear seal out. The replacement kit is for a 13/16 input shaft. As usual, my shaft is bigger. (Sorry, I could not resist)

The Input shaft is 7/8 inch or 0.875 on my calipers. The outside diameter of the seal needs to be 1.350 inches. The supplied seal is 1.270 inches. So, too small.

The old seal number is 5686526 which comes up as a GM part number.

Napa has the seal, but I need a dust cover also that would come in the kit. All of the parts stores show the 13/16 seal.

Any Ideas?

I have got to quit helping people when they call.

Finally got back on the truck this evening. AC hoses all tight. Core support back in. Radiator setting in and the transmission lines attached. I am walking around the shop yawning. So tired. I am looking in the engine bay thinking, "what is missing"?

I look around the truck and realize I forgot to slide the fan shroud in before the radiator. Did I mention I am tired?

I hate doing things twice.

So frustrating. I seem to spend more time looking for stuff I just had. This is happening multiple times a day now. This last one was a fan clutch stud. 2 of the studs came out due to the threads being gummed up or buggered over. First one cleaned up fine on the wire wheel and the nut unscrewed by hand. The second one needed more work. So I grab my thread file and clean that one up. Set it down with the other 2 nuts, but no 4th nut and stud. Where the heck is it? I am looking all over. Had it 5 minutes ago.

I am really getting despondent as I do this all the time. And I am tired. Now I am putting all of the tools away. Still no stud and nut. I am looking everywhere I have been in the shop today. Nothing goes in the trash can until the night is over and I have everything. Trash goes in a box during the day. Then it is emptied when I know I have everything.

45 minutes have gone by now.

Nothing.

I picked up the thread file to put it away. There is the stud laying in the drawer where the thread file goes. Still no nut. So I start pulling stuff out of that drawer. Find it under the handle lip at the front of the door.

I am done for the night.

But it is still light out.

Don't feel too bad I'm just shy of 40 and I spend way too much time looking for things also. Same exact thing as you, I know I just had it where the hell did it go? I too have way to many things/stress going on at a time.

Maybe you need redbull….it has wings!

I don't drink soda anymore. And I don't have any beer.

The blackberry hooch was tasty.
I'm just going to be blunt because I don't like hearing you struggle. It's your time to be selfish. You and the Mrs. This project is yours to enjoy a cool road trip that most of us nutjobs would give anything to go do ourselves. Shut it down and take the time to do your project at your new, slower pace. You have earned your 2nd or 3rd retirement to slow down and enjoy just tinkering away at your own stuff vs breaking your back on others' projects.

I know it's not your nature to turn away from helping anybody, a friend or paying customer, but something has got to give. Right now that something is you. Your mental capacity for problem-solving, and physical strength are all getting used up doing stuff for others. This leaves you frustrated and befuddled looking for a damn stud and nut you had in your hand five minutes earlier.

I don't think I'm alone in my thoughts on this. You need to take care of numero uno. I hope you do.

I’ve told him, he better park it before he has another heart attack

Wow. 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep last night. That has not happened in a long time. The dog woke me up at 6:30 probably wondering what was wrong. Grocery shopping this morning, then a trip down town to fix a food trailer before their weekend gigs. I love pricing emergency work.

Everything is back together including radiator and the steering box. Was going to fill the fluids, then remembered that I need to add a temp sensor for the new gauge.

Progress continues.

Not being able to get stuff locally because they are out of them is getting old. I need 4 -1/0 x 3/8 battery cable ends. Called around and nobody has them. Most auto parts stores only go to 2/0. The one that had them in the past has not seen any in months.

Had to order from Amazon and will get them Monday. Has Amazon just bought everything so no other suppliers can get anything?
