That is normal for a USS washer, the SAE washers are a better fit.I had to order 1/4" flat washers from Amazon. Everyone here has Hillman, and the supposed 1/4" washers fit a 5/16" perfectly. Not doing it, might as well not use a washer.
Haven't seen the Amazon ones I chose, be here in a day or so.
That's the difference between sae and uss washers. They fit one size bigger and have a larger od on sae. USS have a smaller od and fit the size they say. Wade, for those large cable ends check a welding shop or the welding section in the hardware store.
I also order a lot of that stuff from McMaster if I can't get it locally. Fast shipping and mostly quality USA made stuff.
