Wade those “sealed” carbs were prevalent in the early 80’s. GM tech manual stated for service adjustment to knock out the casting with a chisel and use a special tool for the adjustment….I think You could get an older model and steal the screws from it to use in your carb.
 
I have the tool. Had to get a new vacuum gauge, as mine seems to have grown leg's. I am sure I will find it tomorrow.
Ah the old "I know that's around here somewhere". I just found a rivet gun I knew I had but couldn't find for the life of me a few weeks ago. It was in the hammer and prybar drawer. No idea why. Been there a long time cuz it was under everything. I didn't even think to look there. :dunno:
 
And........

Right after I posted that, I remebered where the vacuum gauge was. In the same plastic parts sorting box as all of the vacuum fittings.:doah:

Wasted a trip to the auto parts store. At least I only paid $2.98.9 for gas while up there.
 
AAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warmed it up. Vacuum is pulling 15in/Hg. Walked around the front to adjust the air screws, it dies. I start it again with throttle pumping. Runs for 20 seconds, dies. Attempts to fire. No dice.

No fuel again. I put a clear line from the hard line to the carb to watch the pump. Tiny amount of fuel in pulses.

I guess better here than on the road.
 
Didn't you already replace that fuel pump Wade?

I had a fuel pump sputtering like that halfway to the dunes once, truck was barely running. Luckily I went past a Carquest or something before it completely quit, swung in and bought a pump, swapped it, and carried on to the dunes. Got lucky on that one, it was a 4 hour trip each way then. This was before smartphones where you could lookup locations easily.

Another year a friend came up to MI from TX and we went to go out on the lake in the jet boat. Wouldn't start, no fuel, first time in years. So I offered to my friend, "I have a working fuel pump at home leftover from the EFI conversion on the truck. I can go get it and fix it and we can go on the boat or we can go do sometime else? He says, let's fix it. So I go to take off, the wife looks at me laughing and says "we just have extra of these sitting at home?"...yes dear....

My buddy on Sunday said his ls conversion only had 15psi of fuel... I just happened to hand him a regulator and the old pump out of my truck in 3 mins. :haha:

Do you have a electrical fuel pump? I swear those work terrible with a carb.

I thought spare fuel pumps were a requirement to be a car person? I kept mine from my carb engine because I paid for it.
 
The regal has two pumps in one unit, so it has a built in spare I can turn on with the digital dash (ECU turns it on above 30% throttle). I also have a 1 terminal connector for each pump power wire, I swap them every few years so the primary pump is the other one.

I like the gearotor style electric pumps with a bypass regulator, even for a carb. Keeps them cooler, dead heading the pump reduces the life.
 
It seems I have a fuel pick up issue. Put 20 gallons in it from cans last Wednesday. Drove it a little, not 200 miles. No fuel to the mechanical pump. No fuel at the filter mid frame. Poured 5 gallons into it, cranks a while and fires up. Second time it has done this. I guess the tank needs to come back out. The fuel gauge quit working within a week of installing it, so I was planning to fix that anyways.
 
Frustration times eleventy billion.

My fingers no longer work well enough to manage these small parts. Been reading and mathing jets and metering rods. What are in it are 75 jets and 58 rods. I can not find a reference to 58 rods. Everything I have are 44 and below.

The air horn gasket is original to when I bought the truck. Has been apart so many times, it has now failed. Looking all over the net for this gasket, I finally found one. The venturi nozzle opening and the power valve location are different.

I need to move the truck, so I dug out the marine Q_Jet that has not been on anything since 1988. Has been sealed in a bag. No idea what is in it. I slap it on and crank the truck over. Filled with fuel. No leaks. Fired up and idled. Had to turn the idle up a bit.

AFR is 13.2 and steady at idle. I ran the throttle up a little and it went to 13.6. Back to 13.2 at idle. mashed the throttle a couple of times. Never went over 14.5. WTH????????

Might just tune the air screws and run it.
