I need to do something that goes against everything I have ever been taught or have done in the past.
The existing steering shaft is splined with an offset bolt.
The new column is double "D".
I know, I said shaft and double "D" in the same post.
What I am thinking is, cut the old shaft off leaving a 1" minimum shaft to be machined down and inserted into the double "D". (I can not stop laughing. But I have no other way to describe the process.) Then plug weld and end weld the shafts together. Run water over the housing end, to keep from melting anything.
What does te brotherhood say?
I could not find the column I wanted with the correct connection.
