I need to do something that goes against everything I have ever been taught or have done in the past.

The existing steering shaft is splined with an offset bolt. PXL_20230528_202945204.jpg

The new column is double "D". PXL_20230528_203047168.jpgI know, I said shaft and double "D" in the same post.

What I am thinking is, cut the old shaft off leaving a 1" minimum shaft to be machined down and inserted into the double "D". (I can not stop laughing. But I have no other way to describe the process.) Then plug weld and end weld the shafts together. Run water over the housing end, to keep from melting anything.

What does te brotherhood say?

I could not find the column I wanted with the correct connection.

I welded the borgeson on my dodge after it pulled apart and almost killed me, it’s the same type shaft, a D that slides inside itself…..I see no issue with what you plan to do

I would burn it and run it. It does seem like Borgeson makes an (overpriced) adapter to do what you need. I might even have one in my stash at home. I'd still burn it.

I did it on my square, ground the splines in a double D shape had to make an older column work with a newer shaft. I locktighted the set screw in. It's been perfectly fine for the last 10 years.

Steering column done last night. Sits in the perfect position now. Driving with the left hand shifter will take some getting used to. Reminds me of my right hand drive Austin Healy I had in high school.

AC compressor would not engage. Found a broken wire feeding the relay. Dash is now out, so I am going to change the duct outlets to some that look correct and fit better.

Transmission cooler still needs added. And other stuff.

That's funny. I sent my son this picture when I told him I had found new seats.View attachment 448381
Video is required of panic stops with those seats!

I have a lot to do in a short amount of time. Work keeps getting in the way.View attachment 448407

So where does the umbrella install on the Tonka Truck?

It's good - just like Mad Max!

What did I get done this weekend?
Found the slow leak in an AC hose. Crimped.
Pulled the dash to se why the pump was not getting power. The hot wire into the relay was broken at the plug. Not sure why.
Recharged the AC system.
Found a broken ground wire on the AFR feed harness that came with the gage.
Put new AC vents in the dash panel that look correct and fit better.
Made a defroster bezel for the passenger side.
Added heat shielding inside engine housing and transmission tunnel.
Drizerside cup holder.
Started organizing the tool rolls.
Stacked up the spare parts.

Tomorrow afternoon I try to figure out where the axle housing needs to be rotated to so the drive haft quits the harmonic crap.
