FYI, you can wire the 4L80E up to shift manually by yourself. The PSM inside the transmission which detects what gear you put it in, just happens to match the output the 2 solenoids need for input when they shift(not a coincidence by GM most likely). So you essentially loop it back into itself and it shifts manually for free, I did it with my regal back in 2010 and drove it that way for ~8 years before I got the Holley EFI to control it.

Another option is this...

A full manual billet valve body that does not require a single wire or solenoid to operate.

I am a direct dealer for these if anyone is interested. I don't have it on my website though.

The head options I have are a 317 or an 853. Same valve sizes for both. 317 seems to be stock for the LQ4/LQ9 with 71cc chambers. The 853 is listed as LS1 perimeter, whatever that means. With 64cc chambers.

I like those cam numbers for good midrange

64cc get you 10.25:1?

I know I'm late to the party, but I really like the 4l80 with a controller. I was just thinking this morning driving the 73 if I put an OD trans in it, I would get a 4l80 if it will fit.

And that is where it will run most of its life if it goes in this truck.

I was going to go through your thread to see what you used. I thought you were having a problem with it at one point in time.

I haven't had a problem with the trans controller, it's US Shift. The issue I had was the TPS signal. I was hoping to piggy back off the Sniper TPS, but the EFI didn't like that. I had to install a separate TPS for the trans controller. I got mine from HGM https://www.hgmelectronics.com/acculink-tps-kit/

I would say that's not a bad cam for a good low range, but I guess it depends on what you consider mid or low range.

What does that thing weigh? And what gears and tires are in it?

The price is certainly right if it is sitting there in a box.

I've often thought a full manual auto would be fun, especially if it's not a daily driver.
You'd be surprised what you can do with the correct converter. I used to just drive around in 3rd for low speed stuff 45 MPH or less, not even touch the shifter.

You could idle away from a stop light at low throttle and it would never shift, people wouldn't believe it, but it works better than you would expect with a V8 and the correct converter and not to heavy of vehicle.

Of course for performance you would start in 1st gear, with the transbrake.... :thumb:

maybe instead of the wing, this thing needs something mean and low out front? - maybe less Tonka and more caterpillar?

a plow?

a loader??

cow catcher???

i have a us shift unit and not installed yet but i did a lot of reading on them and played with there down load demo software and WOW can you do a TON of stuff in there setup .

and i like the fact they take care of past customers . when they come out with the quick 4 they said for a small fee you send in your old unit and its upgraded for a LOT less than a new unit . i have talked with him also on the phone and super nice group of people .

A question for the transmission guys. I am looking for an aftermarket cruise control. With the transferase having VSS output, what would I need to add to feed this? Would power need to be fed to the TC for the VSS outfeed. All of the systems assume you have an electronic speedo already being fed.
