You could put one in and attach all your new wire to it and then shorten the frame wiring to run into it on the input side.

I drilled out 30 rivets to remove the access panel over the gas tank.
Then pulled it and found this.

Found where they attached the trailer harness. Just in front of the rear axle.
Yellow is always ground.

So at what point do you buy a new harness? If that’s even a thing for this thing.
I have said "this should be the last of it" a couple of times now.
This is where the weather pack plug will go to shorten the harness.
I still have not found the failed ground.

The worst is when the PO is you. I've fixed plenty of crap that I did while younger, poorer, in a hurry, or some combination of all 3. The whe time wondering what the he'll I could have been thinking.That’s why you make the big bucks… fixing OPs F ups.

White=ground or hot.
