RJFguitar's resto-mod - went offroad

The headers look sweet!

I had to use a cold chisel and a BFH to get my fan clutch off. Couple smacks and it spun right off

I understand it can be frustrating but don't forget it wasn't that long ago that swapping in an LS was freaking magical... as tech becomes more and more "common knowledge" we tend to forget how much was involved in paving the way for this stuff.
If anyone told you an LS swap was a bolt in and go Sunday afternoon project they lied. It's MUCH easier than it was just a few years ago but there are so many variations within the blazer/truck/suburban '73-'87(91) that nobody should guarantee a "bolt in" install without expecting some minor hiccups in the road.

You can check out the truck I was talking about here. LS swap starts around post 82...

Best of luck to ya! You've got this and it'll be worth it in the end. :D
Just read through some of that thread, thanks. Hey Avery, we have talked about meeting up in the past. One of these days we should make it happen. Let me know the next time you come north and you can come over and check out my toys. I am in Fresno every once and a while, I'll hit you up next time I know I'm going down there.

If you are interested in adjustable mounts I'm going to be getting rid of mine.

I didn't end up needing them and they have 3 different mounting points to use. Stock/1" back/1" forward I think.
I'm going to go look at what I need to do to move my trans forward. If the shift linkage for the trans/tcase looks like a PITA to deal with the shift forward, I'll hit you up. You are not real far away either, maybe we could do over night USPS. I am on a mission to get this engine in and hopefully running this weekend. Looks like I just might have time, been getting a bunch of stuff done around here the last month and I'm ahead of schedule with work.

If you can't make your stock linkage work, Lokar makes a slick set up. Used it on mine with great success [emoji6]

Did that. I even hit it with my air chisel, which usually works. Nope. Never seen a fan clutch that tight before. Had it off with the torch in about 30 seconds, with zero damage to anything else. Didn't even burn the paint on the pulley.

Lmao that'll do the trick!

Sure thing, let me know. I'm hoping to start mine this weekend too. :D

Sounds like a plan! :thumb:

There is no way to get the PF adapter plates in the right spot.

Thanks to Ashman, I have his adapter plates on the way to me. Thanks again.

I sold my tires and wheels I had for the Blazer. They were 36x14.50 STS Trxus on 16x10 Welds. Time to hunt for something new.

How about ssr's?
Don't know yet. I'm already 5 grand deep into the 6L and it's not even in the truck yet.

Honestly, I'll probably grab something off Craigslist used within the next few weeks. My area is the ground zero for Weld rims. There is even a guy here that buys up as much as he can and re sells them all over the country. I'll find something, SSR's...maybe even a set of 33x15.50 SX's for the time being. There are always a set of those wide SX's on my local CL, always.

Couple quicky questions.

1. What is the torque spec for the flex plate bolts? What color locktite? I could smell it when I pulled the bolts off the wrong flex plate.

2. Rear main seal, you guys changing yours when you are swapping them? I think I am going to go ahead and change mine, my 6L only supposedly has 68K on it, but why not, I'm staring at it right now.

3. Throttle cable. I see some of you guys have fancy dancy aftermarket cables. I was just going to go grab one at a yard out of a late model DBC truck. Any problem doing that or should I just buy a fancy pants aftermarket one too?

85k mile motor here and no issues with rear main, I'm sure it wouldn't hurt though. No help on the other questions[emoji1]

I replaced my rear main seal but if I recall, my engine has 123k on it. It looked like it might have been leaking near the oil pan but I wasn't sure. I decided to replace both seals just in case.

I think I read some having good luck with a 96-00 style truck cable . same shape to clip in to the firewall and nice and long for the tb way up front.
