RJFguitar's resto-mod - went offroad

I remember your rig from way back when. Loved the wide rims also- went perfect with the boggers...

Care to share how much the paint job set you back and what all it included?

Well, the paint job I did first set me back about $550 or so.

The body shop here in town wanted $7K to do a complete repaint.:doah: But.... the owner gave me a number to his painter that works there and said he (owner) didn't have a problem if his painter did a side job there in the shop on a weekend.

I already had the truck completely torn down as far as trim, bumpers, etc. The guy at the shop did some more body work, did a finish sand, bagged it, and shot it. I had about $200 in material I had to purchase for him, as I got the paint retail store to give me a good deal on the sunset orange metallic color since my original paint job came out purple when they said it would be red.

The painter at the shop supplied the clear for me, which was a Discontinued Dupont clear that they couldn't use there in the shop anymore on their current jobs because of warranty issues with the old part number clear. I got $300/gallon clear for half that.

All said and done, including what I had in it on my paint job I did, I have a little over $2K in it. I got an awesome deal, it's a MUCH better job than a Maaco or Miracle would do. The guy that painted it thought it would have cost me $5K if he would have done it during business hours through the shop.

Ordered another batch of goodies from LMC, should be here tomorrow.

Got a few things going the last couple days. Got the wheel well trim installed, chrome diff covers with fresh synthetic gear oil, new brushed tailgate band, tailgate emblem, corner trim, and got a good start on getting the chrome side molding on.

Where'd you get the new tailgate band and what kind of cost?

I got it from LMC, $150. It is not NOS and is aftermarket overseas made, but it looks new and fit pretty good. The emblem is NOS.

Classic parts sells what I believe to be an NOS tailgate band, but I believe it is $400.

Thanks, Mine looks good but has 2 small dents in it. I was going to see if my dent guy can fix them.

Well, got back to work on the K5 finally after receiving a big shipment from classic parts and pretty much have the grille all done. I have some fog lights to still add tomorrow, otherwise the front clip is finished.

I got the doors off and got the jams painted to match the body. Also got the dash all pulled apart and also got it painted.

Tomorrow I plan to get the jams on the doors themselves painted, install fog lights, and finish getting the rear bumper put on.

That looks awesome!! glad to see your back I always liked your K5 and crew cab

finished the rear bumper, new fog lights, new door pins/bushings, jams on both the body and doors are painted.

Couple pictures also of the new GM NOS emblems. I had to pay $100 for the two rear "Silverado" badges, but with the old and new compared, it was a no brainer purchase.

I should hopefully get the doors back on this evening as I think I have help coming over later.

On the way back into the shop, we did encounter some mud. Fortunately, it wasn't deep and made it through ok. I told myself I wasn't going to wheel the K5 after the restore, but stuff happens. :haha:

Looks awesome! The new emblems are sweet! Glad you made it threw the mud ok! who knows what would have happened if you didnt have boggers!

Whew, that was a close call especially since you don't have a winch.

Looks good though. Get the doors back on?

now ya need floors like Thunderusone......

me likey attention to detail....

Looks real good.
I aslo got new blazer emblem for mine, but filled the hole in on the back for the silverado emblems years ago when it was painted. I did think about getting new ones from Classic Parts. Just don't remember how hard it is to got to the back to bolt them back on if I decided to put some back on.

They have two prongs just like the front emblem, except that they come with a ring of sticky tape all the way around the edge. You could probably get away with cutting the prongs off and just sticking them on.
