I seem to remember that they supplied you with a dished plate, and you swapped it to a flat plate. There has to be this spacer between a flat flex plate and the crank.

Spacer after flex plate if dished. Either flax plate works fine. Its just a matter of appropriately positioning the spacer.

The spacer is between the crank and flex plate, I have a 4L80 flat flex plate.

I have roughly a 1/4" gap between the ring gear and bendix, with the bendix fully retracted. Tomorrow morning I will rig up a remote starter button and watch the bendix up close.

Should be good then? I dont think there is a starter difference between the two styles of flex plate. But maybe there is.
 
Maybe the starter is just bad? Or battery is low? Might be worth throwing another starter at it to see if it solves the problem. make sure it's returnable just in case though.
I remember years ago I thought I had a problem with my flexplate but it turned out that my starter was just going bad and the bendix wasn't extending all the way every time.

What is weird, is since this is a take out engine, like all of us have done, that it was working when the truck was dismantled. Again, thats assuming I have all of this engine's original parts.
 
Looks like the starter is bad. Crawled under there and hit the remote start from my alarm and the bendix engages perfectly. Then randomly it will stop turning over and there will be grinding inside the starter. The gear reduction must be going out.
 
I'm getting very close to starting the 6L. Fuel system is in, the deal on the fittings is I just had to push like an angry animal to get them on. I had to dig out my old double flare tool to finish the fuel system.

Got everything wired up and turned the key on, fuel pump came on for about 4 seconds, everything looking good so far.

More questions.

1. What are you guys doing to retain your FACTORY oil pressure gauge?

2. What are you doing to retain your FACTORY coolant gauge?

3 Guys running a 700/400/350 trans, what did you do about your tranny dipstick? Mine is not going to fit as is, I'm going to try straitening mine and start over with new bends.

If you have details in your build thread please give me a page or post number to find it. Some of these build threads are getting 100+ pages and are like a needle/haystack trying to find info on one thing.
 
I'm thinking I might grab these rims and tires. Weld 20x12 Dune 8's on 33x12.50 General M/T's. Right now I have no rims/tires for my K5, I could run these for a while, then possibly move them to my Cummins Mega Cab, once I find a sweet deal on a set of SSR's/Welds.

Im on 15" steel wheels and hubcaps :whistle: :haha:

I actually dont hate the wheels so much, just 99% of the time the people with those wheels are massive bro douche bags. I know you are not one of those so its all good lol.

1. I took the LS oil pressure sending unit and broke the plastic top off. Then i drilled and tapped the remaining "base" to 18thnpt. Screw the base back into the block, thread original oil pressure sending unit into modified base.

2. I took the factory coolent temp sensor and turned it down in a lathe and then ran a die over it give it the required 12x1.5 threads. Then i pulled the plug out in the passenger side head at the rear and threaded in the original temp sender.

3. My original th400 dip stick worked perfect if i remember right? I dont think it required any modification? I for some reason remember something about moving the mounting hole? But the form of it was good as was.
 
It would be tough for me to see those wheels on that truck. I would kill to see a set of "ck5 style" wheels and tires on it.
 
BWD P/N WT5121 for the coolant temp. Three wire hookup, two for pcm, one for gauge. Clean and simple.


I also drilled and tapped the LS oil pressure sensor, but upon installation I twisted the threads off. There is hardly any margin for error when drilling. I ended up drilling and tapping the oil cooler plate above oil filter and installed sensor there.

Yep, unfortunately there are a ton of those guys running around here. They have $80K Dodge Cummins for nothing more than driving around and making smoke. Most of them are flat brim hat wearing idiots.

I definitely do not fall into that category. We run diesels because we work them farming. But, I do have a love affair with Welds. Everything I have has Welds, except for my service truck (10 lug) and the wife's Escalade with the factory 22's.

I was gonna say "because I know you work on a farm" lol.

I generally hate all of those guys. I myself do wear many flat billed hats, but I still run a 30 year old rig with hubcaps. So i think im a bit different :haha:

I.....do not wear flat billed hats...or baggy jeans, or anything from the Banana Republic. Just a normal dude here....:whistle:
