Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

thru some satin black on it the other night when I had it off to check out the electric fan....

eh, I'm really not sure what happened, but as I said, I find it highly unlikely the guy was driving it around with no taillights and such for 300 miles.... it was about 1 mile that i had put on it at the time of that post..

none of that's here nor there at this point.. the rig is mine to deal with...

this weekends agenda....

drop the pan, high volume oil pump going in...

than if I have time, belts and cooling system work and deal with the fuel tank plumbing......
did you say you changed the sender and the guages, or just the guages?
I would make sure it is a bad pump before I try changing it, but as you said it's yours to deal with.:dunno:

Maybe if he was pulling a trailer

But either way, im curious to see what some work on it does for you. And it does look good with all them boats!

it's a facade.. maybe if it was a steel bed with a fifth wheel... :haha:

makes a good workbench tho..... :pimp:

this was 2 brand new autometers with sending units.. the water temp works fine... nothing to do with factory gauges or sending units.... i used the port above the oil filter... always been an oil port on every chevy i've ever seen... it's feasable that it's plugged up, which is something I'm going down to check right now... i'm gonna do a bit more investigating tonight.... it definitely has an oiling issue... if it's getting oil to the rockers, it's a minimum... and it definitely has a definitive lifter tick.. at first i wasn't certain until i did new manifolds and verified the exhaust had no leaks...

it ran reasonable today... fuel system/tune up-wise, it's doesn't like getting tromped on, starts starving/bucking a bit when ya really get into the pedal.... but it does ok if ya just let it ease thru the rpm's...

clutch seems excellent... brakes seem very good...

Did you get to check the fuel pressure?
That is what it was doing when it was on the wrong side tank.
It would idle and run smooth under part throttle, but give it some gas and it would buck, That is why I assumed it was fuel pump because it was different with each tank.

Will make a heck of a drum riser for some young rock band around there...buy low and sell high :eek1:

I remember seeing my dad pour something into the crankcase of engines when I was kid...it wasn't in a store-bought can...he'd drain oil, pour this stuff in and let it idle for about a half hour....drain it and do it again...I don't know what it was maybe coal oil...mineral spirits?????
He called the "tapping" noise "clatter"....he'd put a piece of broomstick to his ear and tell you what was wrong with an engine...:dunno:

With all those boats around the truck I wouldn't call it a bed anymore, its more like a dock. Put Cheif's rig on the back and pull the orca up next to her. Needs some cleats and seagull poop too.

It is looking really good though. Can't wait to see the real deal.

Well I have used some additives for that stuff but he probably had very old oil and a good flush might be in order.:dunno:

Maybe some rislone or marvel mystery oil before you dump the pan. I have personally seen the MMO free up lifters. Guy is ready for oil change and has sticky lifter. Pours MMO into motor before changing oil. Starts truck up and lets it run a minute or two then several good revs in the 3k-4krpm range and no more lifter tick. Commence to changing the oil and was good to go.

I use Rislone
I have a few quarts sitting on the shlef all the time.

all moot at this point cuz I lost fuel late last night when i went to fire it after pulling the ac compressor temporarily.... hate that sh*t, do one thing and something unrelated comes up...

does anyone have an idea what this sending unit is? it's the only thing I was remotely near, and it's wires are melted, have bare spots, and the plug is all f*cked up...

it's down at the front ds of the block... 1/8 npt.. looks just like an oil pressure alarm, but a with a long black plastic tube coming off it... it's got a 3 wire plug running to it... never seen one up front before... at first i thought it might be a crank trigger... but now I think it's a low oil pressure fuel cutoff...

I'm pretty sure you are right, I remember my dad having to change his a few years ago

Yea, Oil pressure. The reason it has three wires is that it also is a fuel pump relay override. So if the truck looses oil pressure it will shut the motor off. Also if the relay fails, the truck will continue to run.

cool, thanks... yeah, got it today.. there are 2 different ones, gauge or idjit light... got a new one and replacement plug/pigtail today...

sunday... hopefully get the truck rerunning quickly with replacing that.... oil pump, belts, fan clutch, flush coolant, therm, new fuel pump and fuel fill... get down to one tank with a fresh pump in it... got $400 in parts and fluids down in the dungeon.. I expect a marathon sunday sesh.....

oh, just for the record, the passenger side is the primary, ds is aux for those who didn't know, me included... but that's getting changed, I'm gonna make and keep the ds primary and ditch the pass side until I get the tube bed tank done...

Im guessing you dont have to deal with smog? In cali if you ditch a tank you have to do evap. testing and if you keep both tanks you dont! Evap testing can be a PITA!

oh, i have smog, that's all joysey does any more.... but i go to my local gas station guy.... he wont give me a hard time as long as every thing functions, the #'s are good and the cap is ok...

Thank God I'm a country boy......and Chief of Police....:haha:

well, that was about as easy and cheap a fix as it gets.. those wires shorted and it blew the ECM fuse... now I can get back to my regularly planned mayhem...
