Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

I was going to ask if you are going to put a matching box on the other side then realized you still have the factory fuel tank on the other side. Where exactly are you planning to put the new fuel tank.

the new 70 gal goes in the middle. under the doghouse... I can't build the lower box for the other side (dual bat box) UNTIL I install the new center tank.. and thus can remove that passenger side saddle tank.. where the box will hang...

I'll also install the forward drawer on the ps at that time too... I can't put it in cuz my temp fuel fill for the factory tank is in the way....

here's how that side sits now, and until the new tank goes in..

I am always amazed at your skill in fabrication and craftsmanship. The bed looks awesome.

thanks man... :o

I think it's turning out pretty neat... the brain pic is finally turning into reality, and I'm liking it... :D

forgot to post a couple of the box interior.... it's actually quite a large space, being 30" deep or so.....

oh, and I'll be running the same rubber bed mat stuff that I run in the back of the coffin, on the bottom of that box...

Gregs72 OTD would be working overtime knowing the passenger side isn't matching the driver side. That would be gnawing on his mind till he gets the tank in there and the passenger side fixed.
Hell, the roof and half finished passenger side tube bed driving is me nuts.

trust me, those are the thoughts that drive me to do, what I do... :doah: :screwy: workin on it.. :deal:

I'm actually ok, with the whole ps drawer not in and doghouse covering a non-existent tank, for now... people looking at the rig now, get the idea of the look from the ds and doghouse, etc... it no longer looks "silly" to me... :haha:

I actually consider myself ahead of the game at this point... well..... on schedule.. :doah: which as everyone knows, is WAY ahead of schedule...

if I have to put off the tank till spring or something, I'm ok with it.. I'd rather regear the front and build a new driveshaft before winter to get my 4WD up again, than worry about getting a huge tank in...

it may end up being a precursor to the kennel build next year...

could you put a Suburban tank in the middle for now so you have the space to build the other side ?

May not be worth the effort, but just a thought.

It does look rather good though.

thanks, and thanks for the suggestion! :D

I think THAT first line fits it perfectly... while a somewhat inconvenience running around with a single 20 gal tank, it is not worth the effort to do something like that.. considering the mileage I drive... especially considering I have so many other projects, on this rig, let alone the K5 to get to....

it can wait till I do it right.. with the custom tank.. I'm ok with it all..

and that certainly isn't ruled out for the year... I could conceivably go for that in the next 4 or 5 weeks.. we'll see how the $$$$ look... :pimp:

Are you going to try to seal that lower box? You know like a bead of silicone along the seams and/or a gasket on the door?

as with the rest of the fixed alum panels, they will get a dress bead on the exterior of black silicone... but the boxes will also get beads on the interior corners too..

all the doors, lower and upper, are set up to have a thin, soft weatherstrip on the door stop/lip to seal the doors... I'm waiting on installing all that till all the doors have been fabbed/finished...

Ah okay, good deal :waytogo:

After all that brutal direct sunlight, that rubber mat STILL hasn't laid down flat :eek1:

:haha:

actually that pic is a bit old... it has pretty much laid flat at this point, but yeah, it took forever! :haha:

I had it rolled up for a few years and it just didn't want to lose that curl! :doah::haha:

so... I gotta say..

tho far from done, fuel tank, other side, etc.... some bolt on's, lightbar, extinguishers, etc.....

I'm pretty stoked on how my whole vision turned out in this pic...

some may not be into the overall gig..... not like certain parts, doghouse, lower box, etc, but I think the look/design, turned out pretty amazing overall... looking at the whole package, I think it all fits.. the doghouse, lower box, drawers, etc... it's all pretty proportionate... and, makes sense, maybe??? :dunno:

got some bodywork to take care of on the roof, strip it, etc, but looking to put that in paint maybe, hopefully in the next week or 2. it's kind of a grunt, "git r dun" kinda deal.. as most wont even notice, it's hard to motivate myself on it..... but, just "nut up" and get done what needs to get done...

any input on the roof lights other than LMC? Brody, find me some NOS stuff?  :haha:

I think the whole thing looks great how that you've got the panels on it! I showed my machinist/welder friend and he was in love with it.

As far as the cab lights I got one from Napa awhile back that came with a new seal, bulb, and lens for around $8. I'll see if I can find a part number.

I can find some NOS

I really want to do whole new units.. base, gaskets, lenses, etc... it's $100 thru LMC.. I'll go 150 easy for NOS.... or it'd be nice to find at least lenses or sumfin.. I checked eghey recently.. and only saw newer squarish type ones... not the round ones..

thanks homey... ;)

thanks mang....

that pic is really kind of the brain pic, minus the bolt-on fluff...

caught a couple guys taking pics of it in the supermarket parking lot this morn... :haha: still freaks me out...... :eek1: :doah: :haha:

it does make me giggle... at some point I guess I'll start seeing it turn up on random Google/Facebook searches.... :haha:

for all those that have been around since I first mentioned building this tubebed and expressed curiosity in it, I hope it has lived up to your expectations...

I will give myself a bit of credit for pounding some serious hr's into it's development.. as many know, life doesn't always allow such things/effort.. and I have definitely paid the piper to "git r dun".... :pimp: :haha:

Just out of curiosity, what does a typical square body chevy looks like in Jersey.

Of course your rig is unique across the whole country.
