Ryoken's 89 Crew Cab Tubebed build... aka Mutt....

Berg Tire in NC... my usual guy...

he had just got an order of 550 militarys in.. the majority where goodyears.. but there where a handful of Baja's... he found 4 nice ones for me...

if he didn't have any, I would have called Feltz tire in Wisconsin...

kinda bummed that it seems like the Baja's are going away quicker than the GY's.. I really like the Baja's so far.. but I figure with 11 of em, that should last awhile..

when they are all worn out, don't know what I'll do.. hopefully a bunch of the GY's will be left, but not sure what'll be available in 16.5 on the market at that point...

Boggers

according to Interco, the only thing still available in 16.5 are SSR's, Irok's and Trxus.....

Lol holy **** didn't see that coming.

Well then pit bulls.

Decent amount of 16.5s on there. It doesn't matter I was just being a smart ass, but I don't disagree with your point that the 16.5 tire offerings are going the way of the dodo

Just my humble opinion, but boggers are ugly as sin anyway lol. :)

not really good on that front either..... :doah:

these are the only sizes for growlers radials...

31x1050R15LT/C *
LT245/75R16/E *
LT245/70R17/E *

they do have a 16.5 in the maddog radial.. but they are 38 x 13.5 I don't mind the 38 at all, but the 13.5 would prolly require a spacer out back.. which I'm not totally opposed to.. my tires are actually tucked in an inch or so from the tubebed..

but it is also a fairly aggressive tread for the street...

the rocker radial is available in 37 x 12.5 x 16.5 in a radial.... and, I would, strongly consider running it if it was down to that, vs the interco offerings...

it would certainly look badarse on Mutt, but once again, prolly not the most street-friendly choice being the nastiest of the 3... :haha:

oh, and if the above post didn't make it clear, I'm obviously highly opposed to running a bias ply on this rig.. it's not a wheeler, or 1978 anymore.. :haha:

gotta be a radial for street duty...

16.5 are going the way of the dodo.

I would guess is the Army had not made Hummer rims 16.5 they would be gone by now.

Not sure anybody makes a true street tire in that rim size.

The Bajas were a special order thing for a limited purpose. I was told SF use in Afghanistan. The Goodyear MT/R's were the actual official "new" HMMWV tire to replace the old bias ply RT/II's. There were VASTLY more MT/R's than the Baja's.

Don't plan on the Baja's being around forever. The Goodyears will probably stick around for a while though. The HMMWV replacement won't be into service for quite a while.

yeah, if I had known that when I made the initial purchase, I prolly would have gone with the MT/R's.... hopefully, there'll still be a fair amount of the GY's around when these wear out and I can swap to those...

how wide is that tire?

there's a reason I run what I run... with the custom widened 16.5's and inboarded springs I can run the 12.5 tires and not stick out further than stock... no spacers required... I'll avoid changing rims down the road if I can.... tho at some point it will become inevitable that I customize some 16's, etc probably...

first time the bumpers been off.... cooler and fan gone... pulled the condenser too.. eventually I'll redo the AC with the Cummins....... but I'll fit up a condenser, intercooler, new rad, etc when I get to that swap...

going down to start mocking up the bumper.. hopefully tomorrow I can at least start getting the uprights cut/shaped/etc....

k, got the bumper design worked out... ;)

1" thick solid uprights with built-in tow points... same bulletproof, sandwiched style frame mounting I ran on the K5.... same angled outer support tubes the K5 has...

gonna run some rectangular driving lights above the main tube between the uprights on either side of the license plate..... below the GMC emblem...

I'm also gonna mod/customize the lower part of the factory grill and get rid of the big double light setup for park and turn lights...

gonna run the same single amber LED ones that are in the K5... where the inner light is on Mutt... custom black insert with the light here...

015_zpsh8jbko0k.jpg

and the same angle tubes as the K5 over to the uprights, just a bit higher on the top one.....

but, as usual, I need steel..... so I gotta try to sneak a run in to Fazio this week...

..

With the left over space next to the turn signals, would be a perfect spot for a set of 4 or 6 element LED driving lights.
